Varanne

Yes, the pitch looked very poor last night, the grass looked dead down the middle, Varanne looks class to me, lovely close control, tight spots don't seem to bother him, it really takes the pressure off the back four, ( and he seems to have sorted out his Psychopath tendency).
Excellent signing

Yes, their is a lot like the very early Les, very similar physicality but now combining that wonderful pace with serious hold up play, so pleased for him.

Ashby injured or hooked?

Yes, he was hooked, very quick and very quite.
Yes, young player learning his, but in any trade when you told " keep it simple" and you ignore it....... tricky

Now that Morgan Varanne and Field are forming a very strong partnership in midfield for once it might be them chasing us, ( but we have got to take our chances, can't afford a repeat of Plymouth).

Sheffield Weds looked a decent side yesterday against Leeds, mind you Leeds got after them on both wings throughout the whole game, Wednesday couldn't get near James on the right, ( I'm sure Marti noted for Smyth) and Leeds forced Bannon deeper and deeper in the second half, but as mentioned he is very effective at this level and he always has a bloody blinder against us.
Good news is their Centre Forward called back by Southampton, ( presumably to play in goal?).

Really noticed it last night in the First Half, (interesting that Luton looked completely different from their usual Hoof Ball set up as well.

Swansea did their homework yesterday, ( not blaming Varrane in any way) but in first half where we tried to repeat moving ball through him as per Preston, Swansea immediately moved three players around him to suffocate ball.

Main tactics were wrong anyway, but that's modern football everyone is trying to out hink each other, and sometimes it doesn't work, ( losing the best two form Centre Half's before game doesn't help either!

I Jimmy has made major contribution to our attacking set pieces, I'm noticing he is getting picked up first by opposition defenders, ( even ahead of Cook), it's a big help to our forward players, I think Jimmy has genuine pace as wingers don't push it round him and run him,( like they would with someone who has pace issue) plus you are likely to get wrapped around a floodlight!

Great man to get through the week and play so well.

Yes, really like Varanne, very skillful, great timing, and nasty when needed, ( he admits to having to be a bit more careful with challenges), some of the stuff at Watford was nearly cheeky Stan level, Marti correct to rest him during three game week period, he is getting better and better.

I've got a Samsung smart TV but I can't seem to adjust the wide screen control to fit him in?
Has he got two jumpers on ?

Yes, they getting better each game, as mentioned young squad learning quickly.

Ground out a good result last night against Luton.

( Must also put up the Chris Iwoloma? commentary as the worst match commentary I've heard on Sky, ( and that's saying something).

Sunderland's Riggs and Romaine looks very lively.

Yes, remember that night at Wembley, wonderful Dutch team, ( and players) we were standing level with the England 18 yard line, ( think F Block) Stan is guarding the touchline when Peters plays a 20 yarder down the touchline around Stan, ( it doesn't go out) to the Dutch player 5 yards behind Stan, Stan turns round puts his hands up and says " How the f**k did he do that?" Praise from the great man himself!

Today's Refetee

Their is huge potential for a new Stroud emerging here, perhaps the heat got to him, but he slowly deteriorated as the game progressed, "Nailed on Yellow card early on?" Not me guv, then gradually started missing late challenges, shirt pulling, ( bad one on edge of their box) and then just pure ineptness, lucky for him this was a relatively easy game that only a cretin would struggle with.

It was grim, was just counting the open goals Wednesday had missed, ( good saves fair do as well) when I had got to give, but we did keep discipline, I think Paal edged it, as mentioned back four hung in their.
I have a feeling that teams like playing against Field and Colback because they are holding players and naturally sit a bit deeper.

Santos also looked good.
A very good point yesterday.

Season Preview Revisited – Bottom Half

Excellent!

Cheers Clive, that Sheffield Wednesday away performance had a very worrying effect on me, after Sam? had missed the open goal, (and they went down the pitch and scored) I put the bottle down and just stared trance like at the game, I had come to the conclusion we weren't allowed to win games and that this was the end.

Worrying, but things improved and I'm drinking nicely again.

If it was the Glasgow Rangers game, I think Rodney had had enough of being kicked up in the air, so the next Glasgow player who tried to he just grabbed a fist full of his hair and through him over the touchline.

No sense of humour those Glasgow lads.
