I assume they have their own people analysing how we play and set up already….that must be a key part of game prep for teams at this level. Now I’ve said that, I wonder if and how we do it !!! |

Thanks for the report Clive ! And I guess the Crown return answers the earlier question about watching the full match rerun before writing the report this week. Not so much leaving the homework on the bus, more a case of leaving the report notes under the empty glasses or some memory cells at the bar. [Post edited 8 Jan 15:23]

There appeared to be some similarities to the England team’s ‘love-train’ corner routines from Luton, along with some added blocking that they were pretty good at. Much better at blocking than some other skills. How long will it be before someone rips off the Arsenal corner routine in the championship ? It doesn’t look to tricky to copy (as long as you have the delivery skills of Rice and Saka) and it’s fairly effective at throwing the defenders almost every time. Newcastle dealt with it well last night but it would get you 20+ goals a season in our division. Maybe we could adapt it for the ‘long’ throws somehow. |

It would really good to hear Marti and Xavi discuss these points and the recent change of system in an interview. I know it’s wishful thinking but maybe that’s a request that could be made to Nourry when he meets the various fans/pod groups next. |

Great observations ! As long as we keep these habits/systems/patterns and not revert to whatever the hell we did against Swansea, hopefully the remaining games should be entertaining and rewarding. |

Definitely not the ‘hair’ |

Agree 100%. Weird decision to start him in midfield for me but sometimes, needs must, and I’m glad he got minutes. Looked much better in the back 4 and then 5, especially with JCS next to him. Great hair but shocking Alice band. No need unless Posh Spice demands it. |

There’s a really interesting video of his MotM performance highlights on WhatsApp. I wasn’t overly impressed the first time i watched it (meh…) and wondered what it was about so I watched it again and then it hit me. Either he’s head up before the ball arrives in tight areas and knows what he’s going to do already - or - he’s running with the ball looking left, right and forward as he runs. It’s quite impressive to watch it because he appears to be completely fluid and therefore one assumes, mostly natural but with a lot of confidence for a player of his age. If you have that in your locker early doors, then that’s a great set of attributes, especially as you get stronger (remember how Gazza used to shrug people off the ball) and gain more experience. Loads more potential development and improvement to go but the focus on him in the video is an enlightening show of talent and skill. Kudos to him and the coaching staff for getting him into the team. |

The cross to Frey was one of my highlights. I couldn’t see if he looked up before hand but it was the only ball that was going to work given the position that Frey had taken. Frey gets quite frustrated with his service at times when he takes up good positions but that was right in the unicorn chocolatier’s wheelhouse. |

That series of blocks, tackles and Field’s clearance close to the line was a tribute to Mr Cook and his standards. We’d have conceded then if it was the period just a few weeks before Xmas and the game would have been very different I suspect. |

They certainly accepted our invitation to press harder and higher when we did that. All those games played against Southampton nearly paid off…. |

The more possession we have and the less chasing the game we do, appears to correlate with less injuries. So, as long as we don’t concede the midfield and play as we have done recently, it could well be that we have a better system for managing the players health, fitness and longevity. If can rotate players around that base and give the subs more time (maybe 30-45mins) to make an impact without making wholesale changes, then I think that’s potentially a good balance for this game. We also need to avoid conceding an early goal because that also disturbs our karma. [Post edited 7 Jan 9:32]

No, and he supports Hartlepool…. |

Yeah, Luton reminded me a little of us when we go through a period of being unlucky combined with not very good. You know they can play better and some of them have proved that at a higher level but they just don’t really turn up and must be looking over their shoulders at the teams below who have games in hand. As for Rob Edwards, he had that haunted, anxious look about him with some awful body language at times. The cameras zoomed in quite a bit on him. |

LOL moment on Talksport as they reviewed Rob Edward’s comments on last night. Edwards - 'The footballing gods are against us' Stelling - ‘I’m not sure that Jimmy Dunne and Morgan Fox qualify as footballing gods….’ |

There’s a common theme of improvement emerging for most of the players, which I would assume is related to the consistency and continuity of good coaching/management. Morgan appears to have many of the technical ingredients required for a successful career and progress should continue if he stays fit, adds a bit of muscle and improves stamina. Manage him well and the ageing process should take care of the rest. It also sets the tone for other young players to come through and that rubs off in terms of culture. A great position to be in for once - it’s been a while coming but the knock on effect could be a force multiplier if it continues. |
