This will only finish one way. Manchester City's lawyer is being paid in excess of £10k per hour so I expect City to be hit with a fine rather than a points deduction, probably £1m or thereabouts which is like fining me 50p. The PL have already prepared the ground for not deducting City points by refusing to dock Leicester points for blatant FFP breaches I saw some Liverpool and Man Utd fans suggesting City could be hit with expulsion from the league. If that happened City's lawyers would bankrupt the PL. The PL are scared sh1tless that a European super league could result from City being expelled which would finish the PL gravy train Just my opinion |

Good finish by a player Boscombe spent £40m on Meanwhile we pissed approx £53m up the wall on Tall Paul, Archer, Brereton Diaz and Stewart and are pinning our scoring hopes on an 18 year old |

Is anyone seriously thinking that would be a good move? He's failed to get Baggies promoted two seasons running and lost three times to Martin last season. Hopefully like Eustace it's just lazy journalism |

Spot on Saints Fan It doesn’t matter who’s in charge, if your strikers don’t score you can’t win |

Let’s face it Archer cost us today. If he was anywhere near a decent striker we’d have buried Ipswich, end of |
| Forum Reply | Southampton Already Have Their Target To Replace Russell Martin at 09:10 21 Sep 2024
“Eustace might not be a big name, but the Southampton hierarchy are said to be impressed with his credentials.” What like they were impressed with Nathan Jones, Ruben Seles,Mara’s, Onuachu’s, Orsic’s, Caleta-Carr’s, Sulemana and Holgate’s credentials. After 5 games let’s sack a manager who got us promoted and replace him with a manager who narrowly avoided relegation with Birmingham City and then got sacked and is totally unproven. Forgive me if I don’t get too excited [Post edited 21 Sep 9:13]

I don’t know the workings of club Nick but I doubt very much that Russell Martin was asked what strikers he would need to keep the club up and he said I’ll keep Armstrong and go and get me Brereton Diaz, Archer and Cornet. Between the four of them they have scored 24 goals in 165 PL games. That equates to your entire strike force scoring once every 7 games. People on here are saying it’s because of the way Martin is using them but he wasn’t their manager before when they were vastly underperforming. Looking at the players who SR have signed but the managers haven’t played them tells you the manager has little say. I’m sure Nathan Jones didn’t say go out and get me Mislav Orsic. As I say I don’t know who’s responsible for the quality of signings but I did remember someone at Brentford saying Ankersen selected a lot of the players but had someone above him to over rule when he made a bad choice which apparently he often did Clearly there has been a massive issue with our transfer policy and I might be wrong but I suspect it’s SRs fault more than the managers |

I’m happy with the way we’ve played and lined up but the penalty miss turned the half It’s clear from his stats that Archer was never going to answer our striker problem Get him off and get Stewart on |

I agree Grumps, Dibbling has earned a start I think it needs a shake up. Armstrong and Smallbone have struggled at this level and I’m not convinced by Aribo for 90 minutes Perhaps start Dibbling, Archer and Fernandez or Lallana or bring Lallana/Fernandez on for Aribo in the second half [Post edited 12 Sep 9:49]

Spot on Butty I was critical of Russell last season at times but he got the job done. I wouldn’t say I wasn’t a fan of the passing game just the passing out from the back but when it came off which was more often than not to be fair it was good to watch This season was always going to be tough and mistakes we got away with last season wil be punished but let’s see what he can do and get behind him. People forget he’s still a relatively new coach and has a massive learning curve in the PL. As fans we can get behind him or make it hard for him and people who want him out after 3 games should be careful what they wish for because any manager is going to struggle to pick up points with the forward line SR has assembled |

“ He doesn't ask them to do things that they can't.” So he just needs to ask the strikers he has available to him to score goals, which they’ve proven under a number of different managers that they are incapable of? Despite his style of football which I was often sceptical about he still got us promoted last season in the toughest Championship promotion race ever and we played the most attractive football in the division when it came off I think we need to cut him some slack |

I was critical of RM last season but he stuck to his principles and got performances from a set of players who were not tipped for promotion and got the job done so it would be crazy to sack him now. I'd say give him at least a third to half a season to see what he can do. Personally I think he’ll turn it around, but it was always going to be a tough season. However I think like Ralph under Gao, Martin has been hamstrung by the quality of players he's been given and I think Sports Republic are worse than Gao because Gao just refused to pay money out whereas SR don't seem to have a clue what they’re doing in the transfer market Sports Republic’s plan to keep Southampton in the Premier League was to keep Adam Armstrong and Ross Stewart and add Ben Brereton-Diaz, Cameron Archer and Maxwell Cornet. As a collective they have scored a total of 24 goals in 162 games in the PL ie an entire strike force that scores once in every 7 games. That obviously doesn’t include Ross Stewart who in fairness hasn’t played in the PL and probably never will, but if you want you can add in the zero goals he’s scored for us in the 12 months since we bought him. It really makes it a tough ask for any manager A team coming up from the Championship will have to add players to improve the team, ie tried and tested PL or top European league players. Apart from Ramsdale we haven’t added anyone who is better than what we had last season and let’s face it if Bazunu wasn’t injured we wouldn’t have got Ramsdale. This window we have a net spend of +£67.9m. That’s more than Wolves, Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Leicester and Chelsea. When Sports Republic bought Southampton they spent £128m to try and keep us in the PL mainly on utter pap. Some very serious questions need to be asked of whoever is in charge of transfers [Post edited 4 Sep 12:27]

Both think we’ll be relegated which is great news as that pair of tossers couldn’t predict the outcome of a Tyson Fury v Alan Carr boxing match |
