It's almost like he's happy for billions to die in the future so that America (ie - him and his rich mates) can make more money that they don't really need now. That cocksucker is fking up my retirement plan too. Orange c**t.

You think Trump pulls the strings?? As for the highway being built you only need to look at davos every year. When we are told to cut back on meat and air travel whilst the rich elite fly in on their private jets and eat the world's most expensive steaks!! [Post edited 12 Mar 8:56]

Yet our (in terms of the rest of the world) miniscule country is being taxed to death in the named “saving the planet”. If it was having any effect I wouldn’t mind but we could hit the mythical net zero and won’t make a blind bit of difference. We’ve stopped mining coal but still import it , so we look good whilst passing the emissions output to another country. China opening up new power stations by the week, India, Russia, USA pumping out god knows how much shite into the air. But hey let’s charge loftboy £12.50 to drive his car 100 yards inside the ULEZ zone on a Saturday. Miraculously my car becomes clean if I pay it. We need to concentrate on stuff we can control like plastic pollution, my customers can’t have their shopping delivered in plastic bags any more ( which is a good thing) meanwhile nearly every item in their baskets is wrapped in plastic! Much of it unnecessary like fruit and veg which was always packed in paper bags when I was growing up. Do the stuff that does make a difference and more people would be on board. Amen my brother, Amen. Rubbish and it's contamination of the sea in general is my one and only climate concern. That is the one thing we can control and that we are the main source of. Mother Earth's climate will change. It always has, always will. She may decide it's time for humanity to do one and re-invent herself yet again.... if so there is not one thing the human race can do to stop her.

"That cocksucker is fking up my retirement plan too. Orange c**t." Agreed. Him and his fúcking tariffs and trade wars are spooking the markets which is having a knock on effect here. My private pension has lost absolutely shit loads from it's value in the last couple of weeks.

The Upcoming COP30 climate summit in Brazil on 12:49 - Mar 12 with 671 views | dmm | We will not doubt continue to have this debate about climate change because it is an ever increasing threat to our lives. And it's quite right we do, of course. But if people refuse to take on board the overwhelmingly accepted proof science has produced showing the climate is changing because humans burn fossil fuels, there's little chance of finding common ground. I absolutely agree we should tackle the problem of plastics and that it's something we can all do by reducing our use and getting companies to do likewise. We can do the same with fossil fuels - reduce our use and get companies to do the same. By doing both these things - and there's no reason why it's an either or decision - we can and must improve our futures and those of our children and grandchildren. Mother earth isn't deciding we're disposable. We are making the incredible hospitality she's shown us for 6 million years impossible to continue. [Post edited 12 Mar 13:37]

I don't know how many times it needs to be said before people get it, but ULEZ has nothing to do with climate change and everything to do with local air pollution. And astonishly, the data from last week shows that a measure designed to reduce vehicular emissions has in fact done just that and reduced air pollution and by more than anticipated. It's working. Of course, if they simply banned your car you'd be even more angry, but banning vehicles outright isn't necessary because it's working. As for China, it's transitioning to clean energy faster than any other country. Because there is no idiot electorate to be conned and the government tells corporations what to do rather than vice versa, China is able to just follow the science and act accordingly. But also, just because your neighbour is shitting on his doorstep doesn't mean you should shit on your own. [Post edited 12 Mar 13:05]

BOOOM! Khant says children are being killed due to car exhaust fumes. Ban them then. Don't enable it by charging £12.50 One aircraft flight over an area wipes out 20,000 saved car journeys in the same area.

The cynic in me also would suggest that the charges have been brought in to drive, excuse the pun, people away from their cars and back toward using a public transport. It just so happens that TFL are in huge debts, hemorrhaging money and need to rapidly increase passenger numbers.

I already said - because it's working the way it's designed and it allows people time to transition without more draconian measures. Would you prefer it if your vehicle was banned?

They should go much further in my opinion. There are way too many cars on the road in London. I have no idea why there are so many single occupancy vehicles crawling around during rush hour, I detest driving in London and only do so when there's no other reasonable choice (ie heavy loads, disabled passenger etc). I'd support more measures to charge vehicles, especially heavy ones, and fund improving public transport. TfL is doing fine by the way - passenger demand is rising and there's an operating surplus. https://board.tfl.gov.uk/documents/s22122/fc-20240313-item06b-budget-part1-appx1

Good post. There are a number of UK cities in which air pollution is at dangerously high levels, and has been for years. Air pollution is responsible for around 40,000 premature deaths per year in the UK and was *the* cause of death for that little girl in London. Yes, China is still using a lot of coal, and adding coal fired power stations, but: - In 2023, it added more solar capacity than the rest of the world combined. - China has developed the world's biggest battery, using vanadium, and it can store enough energy to meet the short term needs of 64,000 people. - China has built the world's largest hydroelectric plant. Net zero is not just about the climate, it is also about business continuity and resilience. We've used up most of our oil and gas, in today's volatile world, do we want to be reliant on energy imports to keep everything going?
