QPR v Fat Frank's Lady Godìva first eleven match thread 16:30 - Feb 9 with 33673 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | Back to our better selves against Blackburn last week. We've had a week off, Coventry haven't. They are doing well, so are we. We just look like a good team. 2-0 QPR. [Post edited 9 Feb 19:13]

QPR v Fat Frank's Lady Godìva first eleven match thread on 12:39 - Feb 12 by mart_Goblin | A lot to agree with with here . I like Sam Field a lot and at times he is very important to what we do so I’m not suggesting dropping him in the immediate future but he is painfully poor on the ball, looking like a fish out of water at times and hoping for someone , anyone to make contact so he can go over to get a free kick . If we have any ambition then we do need to slowly start finding replacements who can do Fields job and receive the ball on the turn and make crisp passes instead of panicking which is what Field does a lot of the time . Varane does one side of Fields game very well and Morgan does the other but neither are the finished article yet . Both a small step in the right direction though . If we continue moving in the right direction I do think Cifuentes will have to make a decision in the near future. None of the 3 you have mentioned have been what you would call ‘poor’ . Far from it actually but I understand your point . For me Jimmy is good enough to be in a team pushing for promotion . I thought he’s last few games at right centre back were pretty good too . Developed a weird twitch last though . That was a bit strange . Anyone else notice that ? 😄 [Post edited 12 Feb 12:42]

If you look at the youngsters going into the DS it's obvious where the club is headed. Lots of 'ballers', but hopefully with a bit of bite as well. You're right, MC has got a decision to make and I think this summer might be when. Just to make clear to everyone, I don't think Field, Dunne and Smyth have been overly poor, but last night you can tell the team is ready to make the next step up, and some popular players are going to be moved on to do it | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

It's part of a broader conversation we've been having all season - do our players suit the style that Cifuentes believes in? Can our defenders play a high line? Can our No. 6 be a Cryuffian 6? Can our central midfielders move the ball quickly through midfield? Can our wide midfielders give us goals and assists, as well as width? etc It's legitimate to ask all of those questions. The answers will be many and varied. | ![](/images/avatars/1570.gif) |

Field is Field, good at what he does, bad at what he doesn't. He's not going to change now. Varane is the one I've thought about a lot today. He's got the physique and ability to be some player. We've seen some flashes from him already. He's the one with the profile to be the 'big sale' from the summer intake. And yet more often than not he cannot or will not move his arse 15-20 yards further up the field. He sits on the edge of our own box, he passes backwards when there are forward passes on, he will not turn and go forwards even with time to do so. If we're going to develop him he's got to go forwards more. He can do it, we've seen it, look at the technique on that Leicester goal. He was a big problem when he came on last night. Him and Field together way too deep compared to how we are with Colback or Morgan playing. If we don't beat this out of his game he'll just be this decade's Mikele Leigertwood. | ![](/images/avatars/1005.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Varane getting better Norf, gotta be patient.......the players around him need to help him to being more positive and not play the easy ball and sit deep too much (but perhaps that is what MC wants????) | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Yes agree with a lot of that too. Just to clarify , I wasn’t suggesting Field should now try and change how he plays or indeed the coaching staff try and change him . He does a lot of things very well, reliable , always available and never lets you down , but going forward into the future, I think we will need someone more competent on the ball. Not sure that’s quite yet though . I do agree with you about Varane. He has shown enough to be a really good player at this level but he a still has some way to go and lot of it is experience and using his loaf. There was one moment last night around the 85 minute ( I’m guessing ) that he was our furthest man forward pressing on his own ! They played around him and run straight into the hole in midfield where he should have been . Crazy at that stage of the game, so he has a fair bit to learn about in game management etc. But as you say , I think he has the ability . His skill and run on the wing at Watford for example is another case in point . Hopefully he will learn and grow and improve in the next 6 months to a year , which I think he already has done . Just now needs to receive the ball and for it to be natural to bloody move forward!! [Post edited 12 Feb 17:28]

QPR v Fat Frank's Lady Godìva first eleven match thread on 10:24 - Feb 12 by dm97 | Contrary to most on here, I thought they were comfortably the better team and deserved to edge it. Thought their midfield was far superior off the ball - by FotMob not a single one of our starting midfielders made a tackle - and on it. Rudoni and Sakamoto bossed much of the game, and it always felt like if someone was going to win it it’d be them. Baffled at the opinion Nardi was poor. Handling from crosses aside, bit of a theme for him, was excellent. We’ve got two games coming up now against much worse opposition, and should be able to get more points on the board to trickle up towards 50 |
A bit OTT but close. Due to their midfield - Sakamoto, Rudoni and, especially, Grimes, they were the better side. But there wasn't a lot in it | ![](/images/avatars/1276.gif) |

If someone buys Varane it will be because he fits that managers system and has players around him that maximise his skillset. We are clearly not there yet and it feels like we have lost some of the collective benefit of what tried the season around by fiddling with the midfield several times. Varane, Field and Morgan was working quite well for a while….why not play the same three players together again ? | ![](/images/avatars/32435.gif) |

This sums up my observations about Varane perfectly. His first instinct seems to be to turn backwards, protect the ball and play safe. A quite sensible approach in some situations, but not every situation. Perhaps he needs express permission from the manager and coach to take a risk here and there. It accentuates our tendency to not progress the ball up the pitch with sufficient pace to stretch a defence. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
