DIxon-Bonner Colback

Obviously know there will be a lot of players rested but will Marti try to keep the run going.

If my predicted team above wins, we would truly need to be calling Marti the new Messiah.

Anyone else want to predict the team ??

I dont think he will make that many changes.

Think he will use this an the opportunity for several palyers who are coming back from injury to get more minutes. But expect Varane and Field to start too. And i dont see Santos at LB.

Leicester are there for the taking.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

We’re in a rich vein of form. As long as the players are ok and ok about it, keep the same starting XI as the last couple of games. Plenty of time to rest now as we didn’t just have a Saturday/Wednesday games.

For lord's sake, why? In case someone gets injured and we may finish 16th and not 15th. There are over 3,000 Rangers going. It is the biggest club competition in the world.

PLAY A FULL SIDE

I am really sure those Brentford fans who went to Newcastle for the quarter finals of the League Cup were ecstatic to see their two best players rested. They can die happy knowing they thus beat Soton 5-0 on Saturday and not 3-0 if one of them had tweaked a toenail in the cup.

They’ve had four games over the 12 days after Christmas, If any of them need a rest, then rest them.

Was Smyth ill last night, he looked done the whole time he was out there.

Nardi
Ashby Edwards Clarke Salter Paal
Colback Field
Smyth Madsen Chair
Frey

Frey Dunne Varane Walsh Saito Kolli Lloyd Morgan Santos.

Think Dixon Bonner will miss out with Colback fit.
I dont think he will change it drastically. Players who have been out need minutes and Edwards needs to get up to speed. Think the FA Cup is different to the League Cup as its just another Sat game as to an extra game in mid week.
Me personally I would love to see a Smyth Chair Saito 3 behind the striker given a go.

Smells like a trout farm in here

We have just pulled away from a relegation dog fight , just starting to get some injured players back .
why risk any of that ?

If it was me I would pick my best starting 11 for Plymouth . None of those players would start at Leicester . Morgan should left at home , along with Nardi , Dunnne , Smyth and Field all have come through the Xmas period unscathed but with big minutes played . Of course I want to beat Leicester but to be honest I would rather beat Plymouth ..

I don’t subscribe to this “players might get injured” train of thought.
Players can get injured in any game. They get injured in training, they get injured going down the stairs.
Rest them if fatigued or out of form, yes, not to avoid injury otherwise just don’t play them in any game then.

Don't think you are far off the team there Numpty

So our Squad XI vs Leicester B team XI

Walsh
Ashby JCS Edwards Paal (possibly the Fox in the box)
EDB Colback
Saito Andersen Lloyd
Kholli

Be lovely to play the strongest side possibly, but that ship as sailed for nearly every club now, it is just not done
If the above is played, or close to it, and we lose, there will be the normal whinge , not taking it serious, no respect to the fans etc.
But soon forgotten as we are now customer to it. Sad really

You say it’s sad but the FA have gradually diminished their own flagship competion over many years . People bang on about the history and tradition s but one by one they have been eroded . Dont expect the clubs to take your Cup seriously if you don’t ..

A club that's sails close to the edge with its spending, why would they piss the opportunity to make extra money away, for dross games at Plymouth and bloody Hull? Haven't over 2500 tickets been sold for Leicester?

We should be going all in on this game.

More than that I think.

Of course we should go for it. What if we toss it away and we would have drawn Arsenal or Spurs home or away? Or get a rubbish side at home and a chance of the 5th round? What's more exciting, trying to come 12th or 13th or that?

And what I don't get is why suddenly a cup game means we will get injuries. It's just another match.

This is where good sports science comes in to accurately assess the condition of each player. Personally, I would be in favour of resting those who look like they need it. We have another 3 game week coming up on the 18th, 21st and 25th January. We cannot afford to lose another key player to muscle injury.

Indeed. We probably pay more in wages getting cover for injuries than we ever earn out of FA Cup games. I imagine a trip to Leicester barely covers the costs involved.

The more possession we have and the less chasing the game we do, appears to correlate with less injuries.

So, as long as we don’t concede the midfield and play as we have done recently, it could well be that we have a better system for managing the players health, fitness and longevity.

If can rotate players around that base and give the subs more time (maybe 30-45mins) to make an impact without making wholesale changes, then I think that’s potentially a good balance for this game.

We also need to avoid conceding an early goal because that also disturbs our karma.

The FA Cup is far mor lucrative than the league cup. Prize money for 3rd round winners is £105,000 plus a 45% share of the gate receipts. So if 20,000 turn up at a average ticket price of £20 get something like £180,000.
So a win and an away game at say Spurs is massively lucrative.
Talking of Spurs I'm told Tamworth are charging them £42 each for 50 seats and 30 odd pound for 500 standing.

Ah ok, didn’t realise it was that much.

Could mean anywhere between £180-£285,000 extra income from Leicester game, which is pretty good.

Might even cover a fair portion of Tyler Richards salary if we win, which makes me warm inside.

I really hope we give this a shot. Would give the season a lift and theres every chance of a good shop window effect, particularly for our loanees. Don’t forget the televised games are free to air …there’s a surprisingly large number who avoid Sky like the plague but love their football. An injury crisis to match what we’ve had us unlikely…and Saturday is within the window still for a loan should another disaster strike. As long as the line up reflects the current match day squad, starting 11 could be any of them. Come on Marti..give us some fun and Palace again in round 4!

Ditto. And it's three league games in a week after we play Leicester. All three league games we should fancy our chances of taking points from.

Love the FA Cup, but four league games in just 12 days around Christmas and the new year, will mean that a fair few of the starting eleven of late, will be either rested or on the bench.

With no midweek game immediately before or after I don't think we'll change much at all, other than to get the right number of minutes in for players returning to fitness. Walsh might start, and we might give Smyth some recovery time and start Saito instead, and perhaps Colback will start instead of either Morgan or Varane, but other than that I think we'll keep to the same team so we can continue the momentum we've got straight through to the Plymouth game.

Chair said in his post match interview that he wanted to play so I’d imagine he will.

I’d be tempted to maybe rest Field or reduce his minutes but otherwise it should be a strong side. If we’re not going to have a go at a cup run in our current position then when are we going to?

Our players get injured when we’re not playing. Let’s just play our strongest side.

Would rest Frey, Smyth, Morgan.

Wouldn't start Colback or JCS yet

Nardi

Dunne Edwards Fox Paal

Varane Field Madsen

Chair Lloyd Saito

He may well rest Frey, Dunne, and Smyth.
These players we do not have direct replacements for if they get injured.

What is the betting that Paal has a blinder with his contract ending soon as well?

Saito, Lloyd, Chair

Give JCS, Edward’s and Colback some much needed minutes, we have Hull, Plymouth and Wednesday coming up, not must win games, but don’t want Hull and Plymouth closing the gap. We’re going to need our squad fit for Feb and March when we have a tough run of games.
