Is there any actual evidence that Clarke ever wrote a letter to the F.A. backing Calvin up or is it just hearsay?
Its possible it could have happened after the 12 game decision was revealed last Friday. If Clarke felt the punishment was too harsh? Its not happened after the event though and leading upto the decision or else it would have been mentioned in that report. Seems the only contact they had was with the Oldham physio.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
Wow! Cant see them budging on the 12 games after that. Interesting that because Calvin didn't agree with the '3 game ban being inappropriate' they discounted his admission of guilt (not that he could do anything other than admit it after that video evidence). Seems Russ Green's statement did more harm than good also! Probably best to move on and take it on the chin (pardon the expression).
Russ Green's statement must have been agreed to by others at the club, including Calvin Andrew. But someone should have insisted that the phrases about 'vehemently' denying the attack was intentional and 'a miss-timed judgement' are ridiculous - worse than the FA's clunking prose and the repeated insistence that what he did was 'truly exceptional'.
It's a pity the full statement wasn't reproduced, as it might have given a clue as to why CA did it. Probably we'll not now be told. But it is difficult to understand how Clarke came to be bashed quite unintentionally by someone whose judgement was affected by a faulty timing mechanism.
