On page 12. Anyone read it?

Bloody Hornets fan having a go at Dale over the pitch renovations!

You couldn't make it up!

Poll: Who do you think bury should appoint as their next manager?

Not only is this egg chaser unbelievably stupid by failing to understand the restrictions imposed by Mother Nature, he is also accusing Dale - or someone connected with Dale - of receiving some sort of back-hander from the firm who have the contract for the work.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been made up.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Haven't seen the letter (not read the Ob for years) but just to put this into context - what exactly is the problem this tool is suggesting?

The letter writer is complaining Hornets have to re-arrange their games to allow time for the pitch to have un-necessary work carried out, which he implies is down to the powers that be wanting a back-hander.

In his expert eye, there's nowt wrong with the pitch and the un-necessary work is a front for someone to make good.

There's no reference to Dale in the letter, but you can just sense the Hornets' hatred of Dale oozing out of every sentence written.

He's called Geoff Mallinson of Milnrow btw.

Well Geoff is obviously a bit dim and can't understand simple things like the only time to repair the pitch properly is during the close football season. Nothing like a bitter egg chaser, he's not linked to any council members is he?

It's not like the pitch doesn't have work carried out every close season, is it?

If they're going to whinge, you'd at least think they'd come up with something original, the boring tw@ts.

I think you`ll find that Geoff Mallinson has nothing whatsoever to do with Hornets apart from going along to watch them every week,so his letter should be viewed solely as one person venting a bit of steam that he has to travel all over the country for a few weeks in the summer with the inevitable inconveniences this involves. Hornets supporters know how poor Hornets usually are when playing away,so I`d say he`s accepting that the next time they`re at home, about July 19th,their promotion chances will be well and truly over.

They've hardly been travelling to Gillingham, Plymouth, Colchester, Portsmouth, etc.

What this fool hasn't realised is that one of the reasons the pitch has looked so much better by May is BECAUSE of the work and investment that has gone into it in recent years. And, I might add, work Hornets don't pay for.

That the work has to take place in summer is down to Mother Nature, so perhaps he should vent steam in her direction.

However, to indirectly accuse someone at Dale of profiting financially from this work just sums up the attitude of some people connected with Hornets, which he is by virtue of watching them.

Worthless, yes... but flinging mud in a public forum? he should be asked to substantiate his claims. A nice little letter from a member of the legal fraternity might not go amiss.

Mr Mallinson is indeed a Hornets supporter, has been for most of his lifetime now in his eighties. Before his retirement he worked in the town planning department for the council so should be wise to the way things are done. [ He might have been free-lance]. He is well known in the Crown Green Bowls world. Can come over as an arrogant person. Picture someone with a backward lean a cigarette in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other.

Would that not be taking things a tad too far in response to a single letter in a local newspaper?

Why give this more air than it is worth??

a bit harsh to say he is connected to Hornets if his only connection is he watches them.

I would hate to think our club would be tarnished by the things some people say on here, simply because they watch the Dale. The club cannot be held responsible for or associated with things an individual supporter spouts.

Possibly, but he needs to be careful about what he's implying, as was the case with that Bradford chap who accused Dale of fiddling away attendances for tax purposes.

Probably, but it'd be very satisfying to see a letter of retraction from him.

I almost said - from the likes of him.

He used to write extensively about how the trams wouldn't be able to get up the slope from Maclure Road to the railway line. They seem to manage this numerous times each day, and have done since day one.

Clearly a man who knows his stuff.

Surely the reason the pitch is in such a good state nowadays is due to the recent work done over pre-season/end of season?

Clearly needs to be ignored!

Exactly,it sounds like he`s lost the plot a bit anyway judging by the people on here who know of him. Forget it.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the original letter the fact remains that having to play all away games for the best part of two months slap bang in the middle of the season is more or less guaranteed to make actually winning anything almost impossible.

For years I used to follow both teams, Dale on Saturday and Hornets on Sunday. Because of that sort of attitude I now only follow one team.
