Brendan Rodgers To Saints ! Rumours In Scotland
Tuesday, 13th Mar 2018 14:07

The Scottish media are reporting that Saints are likely to try and tempt Brendan Rodgers from Celtic to save the club from relegation.

Ironically Brendan Rodgers was the man responsible for setting Saints off on the crazy ride of the last four years, as Liverpool boss he was central in luring several Saints players to Anfield and became a figure of hate to Saints supporters.

Now though he could be returning to St Mary's, not to sign a player, but to become the manager of the club.

The Scottish Sun is reporting that "Les Reed, who advises Chinese owner Gao Jisheng, is a big admirer of Rodgers. "

They continue to say

"Rodgers signed a four-year deal at Celtic in April, 2017, worth close to £2.5 million a year.

That salary and likely seven-figure compensation figure would not deter Saints, who face a huge fight to maintain their top flight status."

Certainly Rodgers has experience in the Premier League and varying success, with good seasons interspersed by indifferent ones, at Celtic he has enjoyed success, but then again virtually anyone would win the title every season up in Scotland given the lack of any real opposition to Celtic following Rangers problems of the last few years.

Certainly Rodgers would be more attractive to Saints fans than Mark Hughes, but there is still that simmering annimosity from the summer of 2014.

My mate who works for a certain tv broadcasting company told me to lump on this this morning and I brushed him off

Would he really leave just before picking up a league title albeit an easy one ?

I think Saints are looking for a quick appointment and this is not a deal that can be done this week.
Would Rodgers even want to come to us? He's being touted as Wenger's future replacement at Arsenal. Would he want to take the risk of managing in the Championship next year when he's got some easy medals to collect in Scotland until a 'big' job in England comes up.

Stranger things have happened, but not many as strange as this.

He always wanted a team of Saints players to manage. Could be his chance.

He'd be perfect if we start next season in the Premier League. The pressure of expecting to win big trophies wouldn't weigh him down, we would see attacking entertaining football and I'm sure we'd finish high mid table. What's not to like? Strachan until then for me.

I have thought for ages that Rogers would be a fantastic fit for Saints. He plays good football, likes retaining the ball and has experience at both ends of the Premier League and Championship. His record is pretty impressive and in retrospect his stint at Liverpool looks a lot better too. Hughes is more easily available though and apart from his recent tribulations at Stoke his track record stands up to scrutiny.

Rather him than Hughes. He doesn’t come across as very inspiring. But can’t believe he’ll leave Celtic for us..

As someone currently in Scotland I've not heard anything or the sort. Not saying it won't happen but, let's be honest, why would he leave Celtic for Saints right now?!

Rodgers would be interested because he is bored to death in Scottish football.
Save Saints this season.
Bring us to Wembley this season.
Top 10 result next season.
Off to bigger things for a "big 6" club in the PL.
