He has made massive mistakes these last two games, taking dunne from right back where he has been superb and putting him at left centre half where he’s just not good enough . Leaving us with underwhelming right backs when Fox could have slotted into his natural position. As for the rest of the team, a whole series of forward players who can’t keep the ball and keep running straight into the opposition |

The new competition is noted but this guy is something else. For a big bloke, his skill, pace and strength going forward is immense and his aerial presence in both boxed is irreplaceable |

As much as I’d prefer to slate him as he’s usually rubbish, I thought he had a really good game. Not just ‘ok’ but much better. He got almost everything right , didn’t blow just because someone fell over (including the ridiculous Smyth) and let the game flow nicely. |

I'm bored with midfield players whose first thought is always (always!) to knock it back from whence it came. Or win it and look backwards. Hayden is one of them, so no thanks. Hardly anything positive ever comes from them. It's a cowardly way of playing and it makes us totally predicable in that part of the pitch and inevitably we end of going long.
Just for once, could we see one of them get the ball from a defender and look to turn? Is it too much to ask? |

‘Bit of common sense’. We have no idea what he (presumably) said to the 4thr official. If he called him all the c@*nts under the sun, then he will have deserved to go. And he didn’t strike as the sort of ref who either was a homer or desperate to get his book out. Whichever was you look at it, the first was just plain stupid and to then out himself in that position again is utter madenss |

this. There would be no Southgate live-in if we had gone out then, which we deserved to do, saved by a long throw and brilliant overhead kick from the "aren't I just great?" Bellingham. We were shocking throughout.
I thought Southgate's "jump the shark" moment was when, after the first game, bemoaned no Calvin Phillips replacement. WTF?? |

Well it may be recency bias for me, but I’ve been surprised and disappointed in equal measure at the overall lack of accolades for Jimmy Dunne and his role in our staying up. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that we would not have survived if it wasn’t for him being moved to right back. He was simply outstanding (not just good) in almost every game, as good going forward (including hugely influential in set plays at that end of the pitch) as he was defensively, again massively shoring us up at set plays. His defensive skill and direct and positive runs going forward was incredible to see, considering how all of us viewed him previously. And the last minute goal against Birmingham was one of the great moments of this, or any other, season.
We all know he’s a great all round bloke, committed and never-complaining. Must be great to have in the dressing room, just what you need when up against it.
As I said in a previous post, with the exception of Danny Simpson, he’s easily the best right back we’ve had since Bardsley, and I think he’s been mainly overlooked in the huge part he played in our survival.
Whilst I agree on Cook and JCS, for all those reasons- and the face that, in my view, we wouldn’t have had a season without him being installed at right back, he’s my player of the season. |

Don’t see it at all. Don’t rate him. Dunne is a very good right back in my opinion, easily the best since Simpson and you have to go back to Bardsley before that(ignoring Kyle Walker, obviously). Dunne’s heading ability, at the back and offensively, is hugely important, and he has plenty of skill and strength going forward. We shouldn’t be looking beyond him as a starter imho |

He is wasted out wide. Can’t affect the game much from there. Don’t understand why Anderson and he don’t swap positions. But, as others have said, the manager is working miracles with a sow’s ear |

Let’s face it, we are utter toilet at home. We were useless against Rithetham and very luck to win it, against Birmingham lucky to get even a point. So many times today, players got he ball, looking for an out in front of them and no one was showing. Anderson most guilty. Willock is wasted out wide, I’d swap him and Anderson personally. Big overhaul needed in the summer. Would love Acana on last week’s showing, just what we need to link midfield to attack

Apologies if mentioned on here before, but we should give huge credit to them (clearly backed by a manager who’s listened to their advice in terms of resting players) for keeping virtually our whole squad fit, at a time of year when almost all teams in whatever division are crippled by injuries. This has been massive in our push for survival |

Thanks for kind comments all. I picked up my son Tom when Jimmy scored (but hard as he’s much bigger than me) and swung him around like I never have. And then I cried my eyes out thinking how excited dad would’ve been .
What a goal by a truly wholesome lad, never complained when out of the team , always gives 100% and I can honesty say that in the form he’s in, the best right back we’ve had since Danny Simpson and David Bardsley. A person and player who we should all be proud to have at the club. |
