| Forum Thread | Are football managers immune from 'Fair Dismissal? at 16:53 10 Dec 2024
The guidance quoted below is from the UK Government website. At what point could a manager be dismissed fairly for demonstrating inadequate capability to perform the task in hand. What evidence would satisfy an industrial tribunal? Secondly, if a fair dismissal took place would that mean that the employer would not be obligated to pay the salary beyond the end of the month? And thus potentially save millions??? Football managers are dismissed because the owners are not satisfied with their performance. So, why should they be rewarded for lack of achievement? I am not an industrial relations expert, but, I would love to hear your learned views? "Fair dismissals You must have a valid reason for dismissing an employee. Valid reasons include: their capability or conduct making them redundant something that prevents them from legally being able to do their job, for example a driver losing their driving licence There could be other fair reasons too - these are sometimes called ‘other substantial reasons’." |
| Forum Thread | So who should be the new Captain? at 18:53 27 Jul 2023
Assuming JWP is on his way to FHAM or WHAM. Who would be your first choice? Stuart Armstrong ? If he stays. Or Kyle Walker Peters? Me thinks Jack Stephens may be in with shout given the managers comments about him. What do you think? |

Big shout for these boys! In these depressing moments. Who knows, maybe one or two might get a run out in the championship. |
| Forum Thread | Mason Mount today! :) at 21:58 18 Feb 2023
As per Sofascore, Mount’s 6.0 match rating bettered only that of Joao Felix, and he did not find a comfortable home on the left flank. The £80k-per-week Englishman completed just six of his 11 attempted passes and had only 22 touches before being substituted on 64 minutes. More startlingly, he mustered just one shot (which was blocked) and lost 87.5% of his duels (7/8), flimsy and futile in his efforts to conjure up any shred of positivity. Also, having failed to make a single defensive contribution, it was a wholly forgettable day for Mount. Among the Chelsea players who were “miles off” it today, according to one journalist at Stamford Bridge, the 36-cap England international was indeed at the very epicentre of his team’s troubles. |

| Forum Thread | Alex Jankewitz played well against England U'21's by all accounts at 19:02 25 Mar 2021
HampshireLive report that he was up against Everton's Tom Davies and Spurs Oliver Skipp. Played the full 90 for the winning side. Saints fans quoted sound well impressed. He sounds like the much needed cover we need in midfield without Romeu or anyone else. Maybe he could give Ralph the option of 4-3-3 against the likes of Leicester who are very strong in midfield. Sounds promising now Reed has gone and Slattery is on loan. What do you think guys? |
| Forum Thread | Pompey's defence has a far superior record to Saints in the PL at 16:01 16 Feb 2021
Pompey of League One : conceded only 380 in the premier League Southampton of the Premier League : 1,186 I wonder why that is ? How can that be? Pompey have played 266 games in the PL and Saints 833. Southampton goals scored: 1019 (To be increased by the end of this season) Pompey goals scored : 266 (Not likely to increase any time soon) MIND THE GAP |
| Forum Thread | Ings Bertrand - not signing new contracts??? at 15:24 8 Feb 2021
Does anybody think that there is a correlation between Ings and Bertrand not signing new contracts and break in successful momentum? Given that this is the worst injury crisis that I have known having watched the club since the late 1960's - nevertheless - we have not seen either Bertrand or Ings back to their previous level. Is this in any way responsible for a difficult to define lack of confidence? Admittedly we were a hairsbreadth away from achieving a draw at Newcastle. But the sense of anticipation and excitement that seem to permeate the atmosphere earlier in the season now seems to have gone. What do you think my ugly friends? |
| Forum Thread | Saints were loyal to Ralph after a year ago - Will he stick with us??? at 12:41 7 Nov 2020
The media are now consistently bigging up Ralph to go to MUFC or others. Do we think Ralph will reciprocate the loyalty Saints showed to him after the 0-9? We will probably have bids in for more than one of our players in the January window too! What do we think? |
