One more similarity of Sunday’s game with the October Leicester game was the number of fans in the stadium at the end of the game :) |

I thought the most interesting comment in the fans forum was when Ralph was asked about the apparent lack of on field leadership. For those who didn’t see it, or did see it but didn’t listen properly (Nick? And many of the commenters?), I recommend a listen/relisten - it’s on YouTube. Essentially Ralph’s notion of leadership is effort and commitment. I paraphrase of course, but in Ralph’s opinion, players should know what they are doing on the field and therefore you don’t need players shouting during the game. That kind of leadership is a sign that players weren’t properly prepared. Whether you agree with Ralph is obviously an individual choice - but if you think Saints are shopping for that type of player then I’d wager disappointment lies in your future. |

Jose is now engaged in footballs equivalent of the Great Rock and Roll Swindle. He signs massive contracts, behaves so badly (and ineptly) that the club has to fire him (paying out his contract) and then he moves onto the next victim. The upside of this is that the marriage of my least favorite (premier league) club and my least favorite manager means that at least one (possibly both) will leave this debacle seriously (maybe even mortally) wounded. Well played Levy! |

"I think Southampton is a really big club, so it's a good next step for me" - so is that one season or two before his head moves to Liverpool? |
| News Comment | Do Saints Need to be Competitive in the Transfer Window ? at 16:12:05
I agree with landerwal, TV viewership is dropping both in the UK and US. As such the huge flush of untold riches cannot be relied upon. Better to sit still, save a stockpile of cash and then when the bubble bursts and takes out the over spenders, we can buy again at sensible prices. I have another point. The club has achieved amazing success with its current strategy. Why would they change? Conventional wisdom says you have to spend huge amounts of money to be successful. Conventional wisdom can be wrong. What more does the club have to achieve before it becomes obvious that they know what they are doing? Because apparently qualifying for Europe, getting with in minutes of a major domestic trophy, and the longest sustained run of success in the clubs history isn't enough!! |

Liverpool already have a suspended transfer embargo for their youth team in place form previously tapping up a Stoke youth. I'd imagine they have real cause to be scared of the consequences of an FA investigation. |

After buying Trevor Francis from Nottingham Forrest in the first ever million pound transfer, John Bond said "Clough spent my million pounds better than I did". Does anyone really think Liverpool spent their 95m better than Southampton did? The folly of huge transfer fees is nearly universal. Even when Southampton spend big, it seldom works: Osvaldo? Ramirez? Look at the club's achievements over the last 7 or 8 seasons. Objectively, they are amazing. Anyone who doesn't appreciate this lives in a different universe to me. So either the club is riding a massive lucky streak, or they are better at the planning and strategizing than most of the rest of the league. I believe the latter, and I therefore expect the club to continue achieving more success - and not in a Leicester style 1-hit-wonder way. These are undoubtedly the best times since McMenemy's days to be a Saints fan, and I believe the changes in the game make the current successes more impressive. |
