This has shades of my old Football Manager tactic of just constantly scouting the South American u20 sides and hoovering up all the talent a la Chelsea. Won me a lot of leagues of course so surely merely only a matter of time till this fella wins us the Champions League. |

We are going to be the Cat 1 Prem academies to us for Perth Glory at this rate. That'll be two teenage prospects nicked if he comes in. Would selfishly love to see some young talented defenders coming in - though supposed we did sign Rocca Friel and are after that Aberdeen CB. |

Could see it rolled over the line and then seemed to come back the other way. Lots going mental around me on School End Lower but looked definitive to me. Did think Fox could have cleared it if he'd reacted quicker. |

I was actually watching Madsen with a lot of interest (albeit via the QPR+ coverage from my Tuesday home in Belgium) and he seemed to put himself about a bit. Not a lot going forward but he put a few challenges in and cleared a couple in our box - definitely looked like he was working a bit harder. Perhaps watching Morgan has shown him what he needs to do but he is miles off him as an athlete so never going to be able to replicate that. |

Extra impressive given the state of some of those pitches. Always intrigued when we sign a teenage striker, hope he develops well. |

Continuing with picking up Prem academy cast offs and seems a Leon Scarlett has signed on as a scholar after being released by them - midfielder. Has anyone watched much of the development squad this season? Some of the players that came in over the summer and had website pieces sounded rather promising - likes of Rocco Friel, Jack McDowell and Rohan Vaughan alongside Kieran Morgan. I've not watched a Dev game this season however. |

Delighted with that news. Comes across as a pretty grounded 18yo and futures looks bright. Fingers crossed he keeps developing at the rate he is as he'll be some player (and sale) soon enough. |

For this season I would just us like us to get to a nice comfortable 60-63 points - somewhere around 10th - 13th tbh. Not hoping for too much more - but continue to develop the young players and gel the team. Hope against hope 2025/26 can see us be a consistently good team through the season with a smaller number of additions - none of this being great for twelve months but still finishing midtable as we were terrible for 3-4 months either side of it. There will, however, be a f*****g riot if they let Jimmy Dunne leave on a free. |

I mean I can't say I have watched a single minute of another Championship game live this season. Caught the odd League One and Two game but I rarely watch televised footy anymore. Almost 40 and still hitch a ride on my dads SkyGo. |

I always think being able to adapt your preferred tactics and way of playing is the mark of a genuinely good manager. It is what has impressed me most about Marti - the ability to realise what we can and can't do and set us up. The start of this season was, I hope, an aberration trying to move too quickly with players not up to it. It will be interesting to see how he progresses the team further (hopefully) over the next season or two. The end of Warbsball was awful to watch when all the confidence was shot and we just passed the ball aimlessly around the back. There was no Plan B at all - just as Ainsworth, Olly and co had no Plan B. Russell Martin is the greatest current example of this. Trying to play that way with a squad like Southamptons in the Premier League was sheer idiocy - he even tried Lumley as a ball playing keeper there. Mark of a very poor manager indeed I think. |

Plymouth will be goners this year I'd say. Paying the price of Wayne Rooney for half a year. Hard to call the other two places. Would have said Oxford but an excellent new manager bounce and Rowett is a decent coach. Both Cardiff and Hull theoretically have the quality to pull clear but equally either could go on a long winless run. Won't be us anyway! |

This kid just keeps getting better atm. His running and passing was brilliant today. What an absolute find. He was showing constantly and finding Smyth and co time and time again. So quick over 15 yards as well. |

A weird choice of accompanying photo too... Dishevelled, bags under eyes look designed to show how hard he is working behind the scenes? Wouldn't have seen our Les look as scruffy! It's how I used to look turning up to work in my 20s before I gave up the drink. Don't really mind the statement. All largely PR nonsense as noted but I'd rather have it than not Injuries updates are depressing but needed. If they don't get Dunne sorted out there'll be a riot. |
| Forum Reply | Sorry Paal at 08:18 28 Dec 2024
He does look to have been thoroughly QPR'd doesn't he this season. I remember being very concerned by his lack of physical stature when he first turned up but he was so tenacious during much of the first half of his time at the club - winning so many headers and snapping into tackles. Absolute shadow of that guy now. A real disgrace we have no viable alternative as has been eloquently stated many times already. Our defence is looking a bit of a nightmare with Cook and Morrison out for a while. Ashby Dunne JCS Fox/Paal? Costs us Dunne as a core attacking threat and he is hugely inferior at CB as we know. Field seemingly the only other one who can cover in there but that means bringing Madsen or Andersen back into midfield and not being able to rest Morgan as will be needed. Glad we've got some points on the board and the teams at the bottom continue to be utterly useless - a big month ahead in January and into Feb with a tougher (on paper) end to the season. |

Any awards for the dumbest moment of the year? Doing atrociously and the only game I went back in and changed my prediction for was the Oxford game - having initially predicted 2-0 with Field as first scorer initially. Just about the only call I've made right all year and I changed it |
| Forum Reply | Varane at 19:43 23 Dec 2024
Even though Varane is 23 it is only his second real season of first team football looking at his appearances. 39 for Sporting Gijon last year but a bit part player here and there as a youngster so while not young young he is very much still learning and short of his prime. On less than 100 career appearances still Amazed at his development in a short period of time and excited to see where he goes from here but yeah really beginning to look the part. |
