And that’s pretty much what the opposing parties have done in Ukraine. My point was would Farage in the same way been vocal to Churchill and Atlee to set an election date? |

How have I never heard of this!?? Is it available to watch anywhere? |

You could definitely make that argument but I wouldn’t say they either of those made common parlance as the one for Reeves. I’ve leave it there as I’ve said my bit. |

The rise of Reform has seen the Conservatives question for a while now who they are and what are they for, and it seems that it’s Labour’s turn now to do the same. It might take some time as although there’s a lot of Blue Labour that’s appealing, I think it’s hard for them to find traction when there’s not money to spend. |

Which ones of those are based on sex? As I said, I’ve no issue with Reeves the incompetent/useless etc., it’s the latent sexism I don’t like. Edit: I’ve thought of one. The Grocer’s Daughter for Thatcher. Not sexist but snobbery. The same in that it puts an unnecessary barrier up. [Post edited 21 Feb 20:08]

As I posted earlier in the thread, it’s basically calling her a trumped up secretary, taking a traditionally women’s job and belittling it. So far a few have tried to give examples of nicknames for men as comparable, but I’ve yet to see one that is. |

Not outraged, just expressing an opinion. I said originally I’d probably be a lone voice on here. |

Which ones? I could well be wrong but I genuinely can’t recall one that’s comparable to Reeves’. |

Nigel Farage has spoken: I’m sure he’d have said the same to Churchill in the middle of WW2… |

That’s my point, Rayns, I’ve no issue with that as it’s just based on his ability. If it was linked to his sex or his race etc. I’d be saying the same thing. I feel the same about Angela Raynor. Comment on her competence by all means, but why should we she put up with the barbs about her appearance? We want the brightest and best to go into politics and some of those will be women. They don’t need any additional barriers. |

Basically it’s called he a secretary. Demeaning her role on the basis of gender. I’ve seen noting on this thread that’s comparable in that a nickname purely used to denigrate by using something not directly linked to competence. Also having used this forum a long time I’ve certainly not seen a nickname on here used with such frequency. I |

I disagree. It’s possible to give nicknames based on competence without referring to sex, race, gender or age. The nicknames provided by AJ prove that. |

I only can really go far back as Lamont. I don’t recall any of those nicknames being used as frequently. This forum goes back a while, should it be fair to say the one for Reeves has been the one most used on here? |

Can you name any former chancellors that have been given a derogatory nickname used as much as the one given to Reeves? On reflection, misogynistic is probably the wrong word in this context. Sexist fits better. |
