Beating the big 4(3/5/however many there are) 10:24 - Nov 3 with 3219 viewsCaptain_Sham

There is a train of though on here that we need to attack the big teams from the off to beat them. Well if anyone watched
1) Yesterdays Newcastle - Chelsea
2) Both our victories against the BIG teams.

the m.o. was the same. Play like the away team for an hour(accepted we were away both times, but geordies were not), ride your luck, THEN attack.
This what we have been trying to do(i think), its just we never get to 60 mins level, so much work to do, but anyone who thinks we are just showing them too much respect is underestimating Laudrup. You have to build a victory against those teams. first thing is not concede. Build from there.

Its just a ride.

Clearly the "big" 4 aren't as big this year in so far as they can and have been beaten. Gives hope to all the smaller clubs who ve got the cheek to play in their league. And well done HullCity btw

They can also just as easily put 4/5/7 past you - especially if they get an early goal...

Posted this in a dying thread a while back, but this is similar so thought I would copy it.

Made a comparison of some different teams against the top 5 last year. Might give some perspective one way or the other.

First the inbetweens:
Everton
Top 5 points
Home: 10 Away: 3 Total: 13
Top 5 goals
Home: 9-4 Away: 4-7 Total: 13-11

Liverpool
Top 5 points
Home: 5 Away: 3 Total: 8
Top 5 goals
Home: 8-10 Away: 7-9 Total: 15-19

Next the 3 pts from Swansea:

WBA
Top 5 points
Home: 6 Away: 1 Total: 7
Top 5 goals
Home: 8-11 Away: 1-7 Total: 9-18

Swansea
Top 5 points
Home: 3 Away: 3 Total: 6
Top 5 goals
Home: 3-6 Away: 3-6 Total: 6-12

West Ham
Top 5 points
Home: 5 Away: 0 Total: 5
Top 5 goals
Home: 8-9 Away: 3-13 Total: 11-22

Norwich
Top 5 points
Home: 7 Away: 1 Total: 8
Top 5 goals
Home: 6-6 Away: 6-14 Total: 12-20

Fulham
Top 5 points
Home: 0 Away: 5 Total: 5
Top 5 goals
Home: 1-10 Away: 6-8 Total: 7-18

Other possibly more offensively minded teams:

Southampton
Top 5 points
Home: 7 Away: 1 Total: 8
Top 5 goals
Home: 9-8 Away: 6-14 Total: 15-22

Wigan
Top 5 points
Home: 1 Away: 3 Total: 4
Top 5 goals
Home: 2-11 Away: 3-13Total: 5-24

Last but not least
Swansea 11/12
Top 5 points
Home: 8 Away: 0 Total: 8
Top 5 goals
Home: 6-5 Away: 2-14 Total: 8-19

Quick comments:
* Swanseas defensive record against the top 5 was quite good.
* Swanseas offensive record against the top 5 was equally bad, compared to the teams around them.
* Swansea 12/13 wins a bit comparatively, by not including Everton and Liverpool. These four games included two of the worst performances last season; Everton (h) 0-3 and Liverpool (a) 5-0. Swansea also didn't score in any of the four games, but got two points.

Make of this what you want.
