reading that list I think they're taking things a bit too far.
"Coloured" is offensive now? For crying out loud, it's a neutral statement to describe pigmentation of the skin.

It's stuff like that which leads to language devolving into being less and less clear when speaking, because people feel a need to keep inventing new ways to describe things that are already neutrally describable, yet somehow got on someones badlist because someone had a bad day at the office one day

Get you point but "coloured" is offensive to some people. I would most certainly never use the word to describe someone.

I dare say if people get offended by that, then they are looking for excuses to get offended.

You're gonna offend someone from describing them as "bald" as well? The PC crap have gone too far.

Wasn't Alan Hansen rebuked for using the word "coloured". Agree though the whole PC thing has gone too far.

'Coloured' to me means someone who is not black or white, but who is a product of a relationship between people of different colour skins. To me it is a meaningful word.

People who are looking for excuses to get offended are 'Captious'. In this, the age of the hypocrite, there are lots of captious people about unfortunately.

I see 2 main problems with this;
firstly is that list of words consists of 75% of the shell suiteds vocabulary and secondly the moustached wheel trim stealers can't read.

The most demeaning word is surely missing from the list.

'Scouse'

I can remember when "black" was offensive.

When are the politically correct police going to issue a daily bulletin, informing us of what we cant say or think any more.

Freeloading shite belonging to the Race-Relations-Industry/PC Brigade. One example that Trevor Phillips...... he of £125,000 a year. Not much 'equality' there folks!

The list almost seems more offensive than what it might be trying to prevent.

Still I suppose these things need to be defined as some of the less outrageous ones are just a normal part of some - especially older peoples descriptive vocabulary, without any thought or knowledge that it might today cause offence.

For instance isn't the term Eskimo considered offensive? - I was totally unaware of that until I read something fairly recently - If that is the case I am sure many would be unaware of that and just see it as a part of normal vocabulary. It used to appear on childs alphabet wall posters as a cosy little image for E

Gypsy is regularly used on TV.

Is the term its a dark day (black day / black Friday) offensive. I have seen them used recently and in my mind relate to light levels / stormy overcast weather but am unsure if they could cause offence or if it is even offensive just to ask - but avoid them just in case.

Also Midget is offensive, but Dwarf isn't?

And Gypo is acceptable, but the unoffensive Gypsy isn't.

This may sound utterly insane?...But a guy phoning the police.......

"I made four calls to police on Friday. At one point I was ticked off for describing these people as “gypsies”, and was then told not to dial 999.
‘When police did come, they said they were worried about carrying out surveillance because they feared the travellers would confront their officer. I am 80, and I was quite happy to do my own surveillance and confront them myself. It’s infuriating.’
