It's Moyes in at Old Trafford on 04:10 - May 9 by olympicdale | More than a bit arrogant of Rooney to suggest, a) that Bayern actually would want him, and b) that he would even start in that team. Having attackers of the likes of Mandzukic, Muller and Gomez, not to mention the incoming arrival of Gotze, he would struggle to get many games. |
Likelihood is that Gomez and Mandzukic will leave if Pep Guardiola comes in and wants to play his famed 'false 9' formation as they're both out and out centre forwards who wouldn't fit with Guardiola's previous preferred tactics at Barca, should he try and replicate them in at Bayern. Agreed that it's ridiculously arrogant of Rooney, and as much as I cannot stand the man, I really think if he played in a false 9, a deep lying striker with the likes of Gotze, Robben, Ribery and Muller around him, we'd finally start to see the very best of him.

I think some people forget how good Rooney actually is. If available every top team would be intetested. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Gomez I can see leaving, I dont think he is a Guadiola player, Mandzukic though has turned out to be a big surprise, a real hard worker for the team, and with 19 goals I think it would be extremely unlucky for him to be let go. I dont think he will play his famous false 9, I cant see him changing too much with regards to how Bayern play now. The main attribute Rooney does have though is his flexibility, almost playing as a midfield playmaker at Man U, bieng asked to drop deep to accomodate Van Persie, you can see without Rooney Man United look half a team. With the likes of Gotze an Kroos in that playmaking position, add Muller and Ribery on the wings, unless, as you say Guadiola wants Rooney as a false 9, I dont think he fits in.

Don't think they are forgetting, they're just going off what they see him do on the pitch; or fail to do, which is control a ball first time like a true top class player would be expected to do. It's not just fans noticing this but seasoned football pundits (ex-players / managers). At the very highest level, the extra second or two it takes him to bring the ball under control is the difference between creating a chance or the move breaking down. That's not to say he can't still produce flashes of brilliance; but it's not enough any more.

He probably does need a move then to get his desire back. Looking at his physique Id imagine he has to work harder than most to perform to his best and a drop in standards off the pitch really affects his on pitch performances. He's the best I've seen since Gascoigne from an England viewpoint so we really need him playing well if we are to qualify for Brazil 14.

I hope you're right - that it is a psychological thing with Rooney and that he can recover his coruscating best. Moyes was his manager when he first emerged as a talent at Everton so it's not as if he doesn't know what to expect from him. I've just got a suspicion that we may have seen the best of him already.

Isn't there a bit of animosity between the two though? Rooney claimed Moyes had forced him out the club in his autobiography, Moyes sued for libel and I think they reached an out of court settlement which Moyes donated to charity.

True, a hefty sum was donated as a result of the libel action. There is now said to be an 'uneasy truce' between the two, so whilst what happened is history, it probably still bubbles just beneath the surface. How that would affect their working relationship remains to be seen. Might not be long before we find out.

Yeah, let's hope he rapes another club he has built up, in the true tradition of Brandchester United. Here's hoping to a repeat of Notts Forests' demise when Clough left.

Possibly my favourite post ever. Yeah, with the Rooney/Moyes saga, the fact that Rooney has handed in a transfer request all but confirms that he still doesn't have the best of feelings towards Moyes. Not only will he more than likely still harbour feelings that Moyes pushed him out of Everton, but he's now likely to be even more annoyed with him considering he had to pay up for damages. Can't see him sticking around to play under him in these circumstances. Chelsea seems the most likely option.

I can see Man U getting through quite a few managers before finding the 'one'. Moyes is going to be under immense pressure to win the title straight away, It will be fascinating to see how he does. He is such a nice guy it will be hard to really hate him despite him being the Man U boss.

Rooney gave it all the kissing the badge and wore that T-Shirt 'once a blue always a blue'. As soon as United came calling he jumped ship, but was left with a little egg on his face. Instead, of being brave enough to be honest to the Everton fans and saying look I want to win things and that overides my love of Everton he tried to portray a belief that he was forced out by Moyes so that Everton fans would forgive him. Moyes, quite rightly, said fook off you little weezle if you want to leave Everton have the bravery to be honest as to why you are leaving. Rooney, unsuprisingly, settled out of court.

I would not disagree with that, but from Rooney's point of view, he's unlikely to want to play under him now.

Apparently he doesn't want to play under Fergie either. He also wanted United to sign better players and they did, RVP, and now he wants out because he's not getting game time. I don't suspect he will ever think it's his fault. Get the impression that's not in his make-up.

I think United have seen it coming for a while now, the stories linking them with Lewandowski and Falcao for the past few months suggest that the club are telling him rightfully that he is replaceable.
