Steve Cook on tonight's loss 23:19 - Feb 11 with 3225 viewsbosh67

Top man. Very disappointed. Takes responsibility for the goal. Frustrated about our game management at the end. Excellent nod to the fans and we go again Friday to put it right.

Never knowingly right.

Should take responsibility, doesn't win a header against Asante a dominant Centre Half should easily win, resultant inspiring corner from the left were superb all night, small margins and that was a must win header.

Steve was pushed over! As he says himself it was impossible to get up, set himself and jump properly for the header.

I wish that the interviewer had asked him a question about the push.

It was the header in open play that led to the corner, had to do better.

If we'd had any kind of threat up top/going forward, he might have got away with a single mistake. Ridiculous to pile onto Cook in the circs.

I’d be very interested to hear Marti’s explanation why we had 3 people on the near post for that corner. Apart from the obvious one that if Chair takes corners in training that’s the obvious place to stand . Sadly other teams don’t always hit them straight at the first defender.

Steve Cook has been one of my favourites over the last couple of seasons and this interview just underlines why for me. Humble, thoughtful, committed, professional and mature. Could he/we have done better at the end....yes. But that's the Championship for you. Just enough quality to punish mistakes like missing sitters or 4 poor corners in a row on 90 mins.

I think the major point of difference in the game was the set plays/corners - and it was the same for the millwall game.
12 against millwall and a further 8 last night... no threat from them at all.
Every time Cov took a corner last night they looked dangerous and one finally paid off through persistence.
Cookie is right to point out game management too - we went from attacking in the final few minutes to conceding a really poor corner.
Small margins and all that - but essentially the difference between top 8 or bottom half - need a big win Friday for their confidence.

A very 0-0 game, I thought.

The last corner is a killer, though. Blatant foul (or two) on Cook. Then Nardi comes for a ball that he has no hope of getting and Thomas nods in to an unguarded net.

If you get the chance have a look back at it. Clear push in the back at the right time by their CB. That's a foul for me but that ref wasn't going to disallow two goals for the home side.

We shouldn't have conceded that corner, things happen from set pieces fair enough but dominant Centre Halves win that header in open play.

If he held his hands up and admitted that in the interview that's very honest of him.

Are you talking about a header in the lead-up to the corner, Parky?

If so, I can't recall that one, sorry. We'll see it when the full game is put up on the offish.

I'm chatting about the corner itself.

Your anti-Cook bias is becoming almost as extraordinary as your pro-Dykes bias, and I defended you quite a lot then.

Cook is the epitome of a "dominant centre-half" and has been all season. Even dominant centre-halves are going to miss the odd crucial header over a certain number of games.

Regardless of age, I believe it would be more important for Cook to sign for a couple of more years than Dunne. I think he is so important to us.

We lost to a bit of a gutter last night,

Those corners from the left were almost like watching free kicks from the edge of the box,

Very poor defending to concede it, should we pretend it didn't happen and not mention it?

Of course not, but you don't seem to find it necessary to mention the 7/8/9 out of 10 performances Cook has made over his last 50 odd appearances for us. Literally one (highly arguable) mistake and you are running on here to highlight it.

Fair enough, but when he is the only one keeping them out against Sheff Utd / Leeds / Burnley / somewhere a long way up north - I look forward to seeing you highlight that as well.

Yes, as soon as we conceded resultant left sided inswinging corner it was looking through your fingers time, they were top draw all night, we had Paal & Chair by comparison.

I have posted when he plays well,

I just prefer dominant defenders like Dunne who win those headers and the likes of Edwards, Morrison & JCS who takes risks to step up with ball,

Good Championship defender but like Chair clearly not fully match fit and back to his best yet.

Not with the same enthusiasm as when he makes a minor error, sir!

Cook surely better than Dunne (in the form of his life, but how long will that continue?) Cook's been doing it for years and years. He also, unlike JCS, turns up now and again, even after a major injury.

Edwards I couldn't care less about unless we sign him permanently. Morrison I have high hopes for, but being kept out of the side for a Southampton player isn't helping!

I've been honest and said from Day 1 I've never warmed to him passing up responsibility with the ball when he plays a semi hospital ball to a fellow defender in a worse position than him when he should be braver and take the ball on himself.

Did it twice last night, first time to Dunne, 2nd time I can't recall who too and then started gesticulating & digging them out when it should have been the other way round.

Decent Championship Centre Half but for me had to win that header and it's worth a mention as it was a gutter after a semi decent away performance.

Maybe Cook could have done better but VAR would not have allowed that goal.....Cook was fouled (blatantly pushed over by the goal scorer) - 100%. He had no chance of winning the header after that happened.

Gazza, it was losing the header that resulted in the corner,

Officials were beyond dreadful, 10 minutes from time Field goes straight through the back of their winger right in front of Ref, Linesman and us,

Poor lad writhing in genuine agony, as strong a dark yellow as you'll see and nothing given, comedy stuff.

A lot went wrong for the winner, take your pick at who you blame

Paal & Chair for staying wide right for a throw in and not getting into position take the point and move on, the goal comes from a break down our right where Paal and Chair are on the other side of the pitch

Nardi getting far too invovled in the pushing and shoving and just looking for a foul rather than either punch the cross or stay on your line and save the header

Cook for losing the header, he was pushed but really he's a better player than one who gets caught out like that

Add into that it was a very good delivery from Coventry which we didn't manage all night from the same scenarios

You moan about the officials and then pick out Field, when Cov were leaving a foot in all night and happy to go to ground at any opportunity.

Are you actually a QPR fan?

I highlighted that one to demonstrate just how bad they were, only swinging back in favour of us briefly,

Booking Paal early & then ignoring 3 or 4 similar but worse challenges from their players was ridiculous.
