As it stands, Is there any more point in Southampton F C being a football club ? 17:26 - Feb 8 with 3595 viewssaintmark1976

Two Premiership wins all season and another pathetic display today against a makeshift Burnley.

Sports Republic, as your only skill set appears to be building Fanszones and Pubs here’s an idea for you :-

Sell St Mary’s for property development, take the proceeds and bugger off.

At least then the fans could reconstitute a proper football club with the same objectives it had when originally formed in 1885, to play football and win matches.

Poll: Who is responsible for our current pathetic points total ?

"Any decent manager will want no part of this car crash club."

There are so few well-paid managerial posts available, that we should have no problem finding a good one who wants to come here in the summer. The bigger problem will be recruiting decent players. The worse our reputation becomes, the harder that's going to get. You can predict already, that our better players would all rather move elsewhere in the summer and you can't see them encouraging other players to come here.

"Maybe this Spor fella will be our saviour."

He's a Sport Republic appointment and has he ever saved anybody else?

Our underlying problem is that Ankersen likes to do things his own way. He writes books and gives talks about it. "Embrace Failure" is a key part of his philosophy. Cortese had the right idea. He studied what other successful clubs did and then copied it. His philosphy was essentially, Copy Success, and that's what we should be doing now.

Background reading on Spor highlights his skills in operating with multi-club structures.

Would explain his appointment.

And we should also all take a massive reality check if we think that he may be a football or recruitment genius or someone with any experience at all in building a team that can win the Championship and then smoothly segue into an outfit that can compete in the PL.

I suspect he might be very good at musical chairs but less good at pinning the tail on the donkey.

Poll: Should we try to replace Selles for the final seven games?

None of us are happy how this season has panned out, but this suggestion (if you are serious) is absurd.

Exactly. Less than a year ago we were having an amazing day out at Wembley. Things change very quickly in football... for better and for worse. Real fans stick with their club through thick and thin.
That said, I don't think there's anything to stop St Mark from going off and forming a new rebel club if he's that disillusioned. I'm sure there's plenty of wrist slashers on here who would help him.

That sort of comment doesn't help.
If St. Mark is disillusioned he can say so.

Quite right, freedom of speech and all that. But why does my comment not help? If he's genuinely pissed off to the point that he'd like to see the club dissolved (which some may consider a somewhat selfish attitude) it seems like a reasonable suggestion for him to form his own club. FCUM appear to have done ok.

Number 58, did you take the trouble to read my second contribution to the topic under discussion where I pointed out that in my opinion the desires of genuine Saints supporters and Sports Republic have become incompatible ? A fellow contributor summed it up well when he/she suggested that we want a football club and Sports Republic desire a Theme Park.

Within my second contribution you may also note that I attended my first Saints game in 1959 ( perhaps before you were born ? ) hence I’m not sure where you are coming from with your “ thick and thin comment”.

I’m happy to acknowledge your alternative view and take no personal offence whatsoever, after all that’s what freedom of speech is all about. However, given the high prevalence of mental illnesses nowadays perhaps upon reflection you may consider your “ wrist slasher “ reference to have been somewhat ill advised ?

i wouldnt care if the club folded , flipping embarressing anyway . I dont know what they are teaching the younger teams either as they are getting worse and worse as well so the future dont look bright .

gone are the stars we used to produce i obviously grew up in the golden era 70's and 80's most of our youth dont even make southern league level nowadays let alone premiership.

what has a new stadium given us ?since moving to the new stadium We had a little period under strachan then relegation after relegation then poch, koeman at top level but then sold out to the chinese who sold us up the pearl river. most of the time has been crap. crap football, crap players, crap chairman. this club could end up like Oldham once top flight now national league average.
