The club priced the Swansea tie completely wrong and didn't learn their lesson and correct that for the Burnley game. Both are very unattractive fixtures, in a season of absolute shit, so it's not surprising to anyone the attendances for both are so low.

I love the cups, but haven't gone to any of our ties this season, in both competitions. My view is I spend enough of my time and money supporting this club and rather than giving more of both for these additional games, I'm going to use the weekends to do none football stuff for a change. If they'd of made it a tenner or done something to make me feel my contributions are appreciated, I'd most probably have gone, but they've chosen to bury their heads in the sand and carry on as though everything is rosy. Of course there's still something in me that wants to give in and go, but I won't.

The biggest killers of the magic of the cup however are the FA themselves. They have completely sold the soul of the competition for their greedy short term gain. If ever any evidence was needed why the governing bodies of the game, whether that be the FA, the Premier league, UEFA, FIFA etc don't give a toss about match-going fans, just look at what's been done to this once great competition, solely for financial gain. Those that go to the games are not even an after-thought; it's all about selling the rights for domestic and international tv packages and raping the game for what they can.

Same.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

Yup.

Agreed.

Scrapping replays is yet another nail.

It's really sad when you think about what a thrill the Cup used to provide people of our generation.

The FA Cup was - back when everything was in black and white - a chance for the plucky underdog to upset the ruling class of the big clubs.

Pretty much every match shown in the build ups is about a good little club beating a big club.

And I think that plays into the British mindset. If we have no affiliation in a match our instinct is to support the underdog.

Since 2008 only two (little) clubs have won the competition - Wigan and Leicester. The latter is now arguably a big club as well. Otherwise it's been one of the top 6.

And this year will be the same. We can huff and puff, perhaps beat Burnley, perhaps go a stage further, but eventually we'll run into a big club and because we cannot compete on resource, we will lose.

I see no magic anymore. I see a cynical exercise by the FA to get richer and in the process enrich the top 6 teams.

I don't necessarily agree with this. There is still a chance for a "lesser" club to win a domestic cup, but the biggest hindrance to most of them is themselves.....for choosing to prioritise the league and field weakened teams. The likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham, Forest etc should go all in, but they rarely do.

You can also get lucky like we did In 2003. We got home draws in every round, all against equal or lesser clubs, Spurs in the 3rd round being the toughest on paper. We were far from disgraced in the final against a side in their prime who were winning Premier League titles and on another day, we could've been the ones lifting the cup.

Also, in the 2017 league cup, we beat Arsenal away and of course Liverpool home and away on route to a final where we were undoubtedly the better side and probably should have won. The bigger clubs didn't blow us away then; it was more a case of the experience of serial trophy winners Man Utd seeing them through.

There is still hope, but it requires the clubs to take the competitions more seriously. The fact they don't, sadly fuels the disinterest from fans.

The snaky six and their odious managers constantly cry arsing about fixture congestion but turning a blind eye to the extra games of the champions league. The media and the FA pandering to their bleating and turning the game into a cartel.

The last straw being the scrapping of replays, a huge incentive for the lowers teams to get a big pay day. Binned off because Klopp and Pep asked them to.

The fact that the final has been moved to a week before the season ends to support these coonts in possible CL finals is also a disgrace.

It’s shameful but rarely gets called out by the sycophants in the media.

The hard fact is that winning the FA cup gets you £2m in prize money.

In PL terms. petty cash.

When Burnley were relegated after finishing 19th (and I'd give a lot to finish 19th this season), they got £6.2m in prize money.

Why would managers risk league position for the cup when there's a disparity in earnings?

Simple answer, The Premier League. Since its very inception they have been aiming to make their brand number one and to hell with all the others, with the main aim eventually the European super league, which I think we all know is coming.

And for me, it cannot come too soon. I would imagine Sky will focus on that, leaving the rest of us to go back to the 70's and 80's with BBC and ITV showing cup games and some league games and fans getting back to real football. Effectively the top league will become a slightly better championship. Yes, I know the best players will sod off to the super league, but who cares?

What do we want more, the FA cup back in all its glory, or the best players? I would rather a lower quality of game, a more level playing field and an FA cup like it used to be.

Kingsland closed, approximately 7300 tickets still unsold and Burnley likely to bring less than Swansea did in the last round.

Sports Republic doing all they can to see if they can record an attendance figure less than the supposed 12200 who attended for the Swansea fixture.

Is there anything they can’t make a complete mess of ?

I’ve got a mate who’s never set foot in Anfield but claims to be a massive red. He wants there to be a Super League but with them also being allowed to continue in the Premier League whilst binning off the EFL cup. This is common amongst their followers.

They really are welcome to each other, bin them off, get a normal tv deal and let proper fans enjoy a better playing field. Leave the Adult Disneyland Shite to the slimy six.

Well said ST - we’ve got one of those in our local dog walkers park. Likewise, a so-called Liverpool supporter who has never been to Anfield in his 47 years, we know he’s 47 as he buys the new replica shirt every summer with his name & age on the back. Pretty much chants the same super league mantra word for word. Contrast that with one of the park regulars who is a Chelsea ST holder and very much opposed to anything to do with a super league. Was very active in the protests when the ill-fated breakaway League crashed & burned and has said they are far better prepared should Uncle Tom (Boehly) try and lead Chelsea to the promised land again.
We have sat on our favourite park bench a few times and discussed this and he’s come up with some interesting thoughts. Obviously when it happens Sky and most of the other major broadcast partners will bin the PL and trot off to the ESL fawning at the feet of the slimeball six. But, will the all the current subscribers follow? He thinks not. For every one of those Liverpool followers we have both referenced - they don’t deserve the title supporters or fans - who will subscribe to the new ESL coverage he reckons there will be at least an equal number of current PL subscribers who won’t. Would you? No. Would I? No. We did a quick survey amongst the regulars who were around at the time and out of 14 current Sky subscribers we got 3 who would and 2 who might depending on cost - which if higher than the current deal would be No. Not saying this is an exhaustive survey but Sky ect will need everyone to buy in as the rights deal will be eye watering. Add to that the disruption from the pissed off fans - he said the tennis ball manufacturers will have to seriously up their game 🤣 - and it could be quite comical to watch from the sidelines as we enjoy our reclaimed League and domestic cup competitions minus the slimeballs. If most of us just shun subscribing to ESL matches how long would the likes of Sky and BT Sport last? Could be interesting to see what happens if the majority of their current subscriber base just turn their backs on it especially if it is more expensive as it will almost certainly need to be.

What ever happened to the semi finals played on mutual grounds? The final used to be shown on tv from about 9 am, with cameras on the team coaches, people talking to the supporters walking up Wembley way, with the mandatory kick off of 3 o'clock, now kick off is 4 o'clock so that tv companies can make as much money as possible from the sporting fans that love the game for what it is..

'What ever happened to the semi finals played on mutual grounds?'

That's a good point,it was considered getting to Wembley was the pinnacle of the FA Cup.
Now because 4 teams have been there already, on the way, its not, it seems that its not so significant.

Remember Villa Park in 03? Fantastic as we looked forward to acrtually getting to "Wembley", well ok it was Cardiff, but that's not the point

Why win at Wembley in a semi, and then repeat for the final with a much reduced razamataz that used to go with that day out. Oh, and we knew it was the season closure and a 3pm kick off!!

I agree with all comments about playing semi finals at neutral grounds and maintaining Wembley for 'special occasions'
I think the cost of the new Wembley was so great that every opportunity had to be looked at to gain revenue to the detriment of most fans enjoyment.

That’s exactly why, but it’s a pathetic excuse really. The FA are an odious organisation and in 5 or 10 years time, their pinnacle cup competition will be completely irrelevant when the big boys bugger off and focus on their super league.
