Three and easy night – Report on 22:16 - Jan 7 with 3598 views | Philothesuperhoop | What a brilliant night …and a cracking report to match. Thanks Clive. Isn’t it interesting how things develop throughout a season. You can’t win football games unless you win, or are very competitive in midfield. Early season we had Field and that was about it. Now Varane has really caught up with the pace and physicality of the Championship and Marti has pulled another master stroke by spotting Morgan in the Dev squad and giving him his chance. Those three together make us competitive against almost anyone. It looks like we won’t be battling relegation quite the way we thought…and it is another week until a league game, so I really hope he picks all three against Leicester.
Three and easy night – Report on 22:30 - Jan 7 with 3468 views | Paddyhoops | You win the midfield you win the game . Morgan always looking to get on the front foot . Varane gets better with every game . They’ve transformed us in the last few weeks with their form . Great report on a rollicking night . Flapping Fanne indeed.

You don't win many games losing midfield. Repeat ad infinitum.

Three and easy night – Report on 22:45 - Jan 7 with 3330 views | HanwellHoopster | Thanks for another cracking report, Clive. Just out of curiosity, do you normally watch the whole game back before writing up your report (where possible)? And do you find your ratings change for individual players much after the re-watch?
Three and easy night – Report on 22:52 - Jan 7 with 3270 views | mart_Goblin | Great stuff Clive . Bit of a bonkers night all round . Love the fact that Fox scored because he couldn’t even get out of the way of a shanked miss hit shot going miles wide 🤣. What a club this is ! Quick word on the ref . Thought he was ok for an hour and as the game ramped up and got more frantic it became all too much for him . Finding that that’s quite common in the championship. Not sure why but a good explanation is fatigue maybe ? Last 20 minutes was bedlam last night so it’s understandable to a degree. Both teams desperate for the win which made for an exciting match . Three and easy night – Report on 00:22 - Jan 8 with 2857 views | CateLeBonR | About the substitution. I thought it was more about bad communication than their player refusing to go off. He didn’t seem to know what he was supposed to be doing and they kept waving him off it was farcical.

Yes , and as I mentioned elsewhere I wouldn’t mind betting the 4th official Gavin Ward added to that fiasco
Three and easy night – Report on 07:26 - Jan 8 with 2299 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | You do love your Ghostbusters. More Gonnies and Stand By Me quotes, please! Great report, and yep, when your lucks in, it's in. My only worry is that central midfield area. As a squad we are still light, one of Varane or Field go and we are struggling again. I thought Morgan and Chair were fantastic, and there were signs in the second half of them beginning to link up well. Will be fun to see how that partnership develops over the next few months.
Three and easy night – Report on 08:04 - Jan 8 with 2159 views | thehat | Great start to Wednesday morning Clive - A cup of tea and reliving Monday night with that fabulous report. I am still absolutely amazed with our turnaround. On the train back from Elland Road in November surrounded by Leeds fans (champions of Europe) I was convinced we were down. I watched us not lay a glove on Leeds and we stank of relegation. And so here we are early January and my kids are now looking up the table saying could we catch Sheff Wed, Watford and Bristol City and whats that coming over the horizon it's only the play offs. For me I'm just relieved the gap to relegation is now nine points and we weren't Charity Park Rangers on Monday night. I'm back liking this team and its workrate off the ball, I was particularly impressed with the role of the bench Monday night. Wasn't it nice to have subs who came on and made a difference. Three and easy night – Report on 09:55 - Jan 8 with 1734 views | robith | Luton at home, the Monday before my first day back in the office of 2025. I'll take it easy. Barnstormer performance, beat Luton, 7 pints, home by 1am. Sat at my desk trying to style it out amidst the happy new years, a young colleague approaches me "Rob! I saw you on the telly at the game last night!!" Fear you can not buy. (Mercifully I was just watching at the time, rather than near one of the lino's interventions)

Three and easy night – Report on 10:55 - Jan 8 with 1419 views | BrianMcCarthy | Excellent report, Clive. I tend to be cautious after victories - "things are never as good as they seem, or as bad as they seem" and all that - but I think that report is balanced. I think the main improvement needed from Monday night is defending set pieces, and how easily we allowed the blockers to foul us out of McGuinness's way. The main positive is that the bench is contributing more and more. Not so long ago, the last twenty minutes of every game were nervy affairs, and while Luton had late chances here I don't think it was down to fitness/freshness on this occasion?

Three and easy night – Report on 10:57 - Jan 8 with 1403 views | BlackAndGoldRanger | Fantastic as always Clive. I must admit to having a right moan about lino's (especially Stan Bowles side) after the game and the fact people (sky) call them "assistant referees" they aren't. They are flag merchants for offsides and throw-ins and usually cannot get those right either. The one in front of me had absolutely no idea about the rules, should have immediately stopped the game for the head injury, however I am greatly appreciative he didn't as we scored from the resulting FK.

Re the substitutions, I know there has been a lot of question marks over some of Marti’s previous decisions, but against Luton every sub made a substantial difference. Lloyd’s cameo was great and a good injection of energy, pace and physicality after an excellent performance from Frey. The number of headers he won against their big CB’s took a load of pressure off. Colback and Edwards bought new energy into a defensive midfields and I thought Edwards did a very decent job between midfield and the dropping into a back 4. Saito’s energy was again great and as well as giving them something else to worry about going forward, he takes on his defensive duties well too. All this is super encouraging. Oddly enough I was less worried the last 15 mins after the subs than I was the 20 before. Luton seemed to run out of belief and the subs helped that. And if only one of Lloyd’s efforts had snuck in!!!!

Not forgetting the Phoenix Nights reference in the title. Rather apt, given our form of late. PS, Fanne flapping. Oooh, you are AWFUL, Clive 🤣🤣🤣 [Post edited 8 Jan 13:40]

Three and easy night – Report on 11:52 - Jan 8 with 1155 views | Noelmc | Has there ever been a greater contrast between free kick goals in two consecutive home games? The one against Watford - well worked, precision passing from Paal & Morgan topped off by a neat Frey finish. The one against Luton - words fail me, and I certainly can't top Clive's description of it. I feel sorry for Alfie Lloyd who was a shoe-in in to win 'Comedy goal of the season' for his effort against Sheffield Wednesday until Monday night.

I disagree Noel, thought it was a text book training ground goal. Chair set up to deliberately send the keeper one way and timed him pass to Fox with perfection, all he then had to do was back heel it into an empty net. Easy as you like!!

There appeared to be some similarities to the England team’s ‘love-train’ corner routines from Luton, along with some added blocking that they were pretty good at. Much better at blocking than some other skills. How long will it be before someone rips off the Arsenal corner routine in the championship ? It doesn’t look to tricky to copy (as long as you have the delivery skills of Rice and Saka) and it’s fairly effective at throwing the defenders almost every time. Newcastle dealt with it well last night but it would get you 20+ goals a season in our division. Maybe we could adapt it for the ‘long’ throws somehow.
| Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Thanks for the report Clive ! And I guess the Crown return answers the earlier question about watching the full match rerun before writing the report this week. Not so much leaving the homework on the bus, more a case of leaving the report notes under the empty glasses or some memory cells at the bar. [Post edited 8 Jan 15:23]

Interesting on the Arsenal corners routine that Brighton dealt with it at the weekend by leaving three players up towards the halfway line. It meant Arsenal chose to keep four players back. The Arsenal players in the box still congregated at the back post initially but their running/blocking into the goalmouth was not near as effective with less congestion around the goal.

It staggers me more teams don't to this. Simple, effective, threat reduced significantly.
