Smashed it, top bins, and bangers. 01:46 - Dec 4 with 3130 viewscharmr

When did these enter the football/life vocabulary.

Fishing show with Zamora, he’s ok, and some other guy using them like they are going out of fashion. Talking like a footballer being interviewed with the immortal questions

a. Talk me through etc
b. How did it feel etc

Just sounds ridiculous

Didn't Top Bins come from Soccer AM, where they had a shooting challenge into bins in the top corners of a goal.
Any other stupid expression you've heard probably originated from there too, and most likely from Jimmy Bullard.

I just assumed it was a Gen Z thing, but it may well be Soccer AM that started a lot of them.

Cooking.

I'd never heard anyone use underlap and late doors until Joe Cole was on TV punditry duty. Not sure if he actually came up with those terms...

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Rhasper (sp) is so much more classy than banger.

Was it Kenneth Wolstenhome to a Bobby Charlton thunderbolt "Oh I say that's a Rhasper" or something similar.

"Oh I say that's a banger" not the same gravitas.

One of my favourites was Brian Moore in the late 1980s commentating on an overhit cross ( as per Paul Smyth)

"He's going to need a stepladder to reach that one."

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

Think it's a bit harsh, vocabulary changes and evolves. There will be loads of phrases we use often that generations before us would think sounds ridiculous. Some of the kids I coach used the phrase 'bicey' (pronounced like the first half of bicycle) referring to an overhead kick, which I thought sounded ridiculous. They also love the phrase 'Brexit tackle', referring to a full blooded slide tackle that wipes out the opponent.

That being said, I despise the phrase 'cooking', which is way overused and really cringey. Plus the whole pseudo-tacticos on twitter, using phrases such as 'pausa', which is one of Clive's favourites.

I remember many moons ago hearing for the first time Ron Atkinson use the phrase early doors I thought fk me has Ray Manzarek come on as a sub.

007. Apparently, this is used when a striker scores no goals and provides no assists in 7 games.

So when my son told me Celar was 007 I really did think WTF are you talking about.

It's a Gen Z thing apparently.

Didn't Big Ron also give us the reducer?

Someone on here kicked off about the same phrase, and asked if there was such a thing as 'late doors?'

I couldn't resist and replied: 'Jim Morrison!'

A great saying. Some of our midfielders could do with learning it.

Touche my friend... add into the mix, asking the bar(person) "Can I get" (usually followed by something modern such as a 3/4 pint of sour molluscs tongue or some such). Pedantic maybe.
