The lad has made a very decent start.......not too worried about the strike on goal tbh, I'm more interested in his defending which has been good thus far. He made a couple of very basic errors later in the game yesterday which is a bit of a concern, perhaps he was tired.

What's also impressive is that he's not playing on his natural side. He is constantly having to make a decision; Have I got time to move this onto my preferred foot, before I move the ball on or do I need to play it quick with my weaker foot?
I think he's looking really good and I counted just three errors yesterday.
1.The miss.
2.He misjudged one, out of several, of his challenges, where he moves forward to intercept or tackle early.
3.He put one long pass down the line, with his left foot, into touch.

Marti tried that 5-4-1 a few times; both JCS and Morrison wre comfortable stepping into midfield (and actually Cook is decent on the ball too and has a good range of passing), so if all three CBs are fit he might try that. | | | |

Yeh I found him a difficult one to mark (he's got a 6) because I like him, he's playing well, he's made a big difference, we're better for him, but there were those mistakes like you said.
And also not having a left footer there makes it really difficult for us to play the way we wanted to play. Maybe it's because our vantage point was basically in the left back position for us, right down the front, in the first half but it was really noticeable the difficulty it caused us whenever we played to that side that he can't kick with his left foot. Watford knew it as well. |  | | |

I think that's all a little bit overblown if I'm honest. I've always been a right-footed, left-sided CB (albeit at a completely shit level, obvs!) and never saw an issue with it.
All professional footballers should be able to use both feet to at least some extent and if you look at all other teams playing, not many have bespoke left-footed CBs, even up to the likes of Liverpool and Man City |  |

As a left-hander/footer myself (like all the best people :-)), it's an interesting one. No one upbraids left-hand guitarists for not learning to play the 'right' way, or left-handed tennis players like John McEnroe for limiting themselves in their field, or indeed anyone for not being ambidextrous in other walks of life. I guess the point is in football there might be occasions where using your 'weaker' foot could cause you to miss/fluff a chance, but then there've been very one-footed players from Maradona to Robben to Beckham to Giggs who've been immensely successful. |  |

I think at the back it is more helpful to have that right and left balance if you are a team trying to play out from the back. Being able to take the ball on the turn and quickly progress the ball in the direction the play dictates. If perhaps you have switched it quickly from one side to the other it helps to have a player who can recieved on their left and keeping going to the outside, rather than come back into play where there might be conjestion. Morrison is quite good on the ball so not naturally being left footed hasn't been too much of an issue. In some cases a team may know a player pretty much uses their weak foot just to stand on and might close down in such away that they have to use it and therefore cause issues. Like you said though there are some exceptional players who have been ridiculously one footed but couldn't be stopped. In some cases, taking them out wouldn't stop them 😂 | | | |
