No doubting Alfie is showing far more promise than Celar at the moment. Celar looks even slower than Frey, which is frankly embarrassing.

I thought Varanne was really good today. Our best player. Saito I thought was very busy and not afraid of a scrap with the defender who tried to break him in half a couple of times and somehow managed to get the free kick.
We certainly took the game to them in the second half. Walsh did his best to get the ball up to their end.
We need to be able to hold onto possession better though, we just handed the ball back to them too often. I think overall Marti will be pleased with the performance but not with EDB who really didn't show enough energy and fighting spirit. I wasn't at all surprised to see him off at half time. |  | | |

I think Ashby showed some promise and certainly has pace.
And Madsen for me is improving game on game.
And never ever forget Mr Ever Ready - Sam Field.

Impressed considering we only fielded half the first team.
Varane is interesting. Looked like he really enjoyed playing against midfielders who are good enough to play football. Somehow someone persuaded him to have a crack at the Championship, a league of heavy breathers, when he could have been in umpteen European leagues looking particularly good. I hope he breaks through.
Masden is another one. Still doing that disappearing trick but with the ability to change a game with the kind of cross Smyth could only dream of making.
Saito getting better with each game, Ashby a bit wayward with his passing but looked a real asset for championship football.
