There seemed to be a good few hat-tricks during the Hill era but, prior to that, the ones that spring to mind are Paul Simpsonās v Wrexham in a cracking 5-2 win; Louie Mouldenās dad in a 5-2 win over Darlington; the mighty Paul Connor in a 6-0 win against Carlisle; Andy Morris v someone (it was such a shock Iāve forgotten the opposition); and Jamie Taylorās v Hartlepool in a 4-0 home win.
I seem to remember Dave Lancaster, Andy Flounders and that imperious goalscorer (!) Gareth Griffiths all getting hat-tricks too. |  |

Halifax went on to lose only 3 more games all season and finish third (only two promoted). We went on a 12 game unbeaten run in the league and of course beat Coventry in the Cup.

Iād completely forgotten about Terry Mellingās hat-trick.
Heād arrived the previous September to score goals and hadnāt really done so; he got three in one game and Dale went and bought Tony Buck!
I think weād lost at Workington over Christmas but after that couldnāt stop scoring. Even Norman Whitehead scored with a header in this one!
What stuck in my mind as a 14 year old was the conundrum that such crap opponents played in such a massive stadium.
The way that Park Avenue was allowed to disappear as a venue was scandalous and that includes the county cricket ground next door. | | | |
