Didn't deserve to lose that 14:08 - Jan 14 with 11464 viewsOakR

I know it's about achieving etc as Marti says, but you know what, we played well today.

Our Achilles heal of not being able to score / take chances bit us again.

Plenty of positives from today, not the result of course

This is miles away from getting beaten and playing terribly.

Poll: Will we stay up?

Armstrong takes those chances and we win the game. 3 gilt edged chances particularly the 2 in the second half and also misdirected a header in the first half. Begovic leaden footed for their first too though we didn’t close him down quickly enough.

Why do you think that Livermore was Dykes man?? Was we 'man to man' marking then??

Because he’s our ‘attacking’ midfielder and he’s their defensive midfielder.

Thought the one Hamer tipped round the post Armstrong didn’t do a lot wrong. Led the line well enough, caused experienced defenders plenty of problems. He shouldn’t be good enough to start but give me that over Dykes’ efforts any day.

I have told you why he was excellent (maybe a little OTT) but he generally did a very good job during the match for the team (& himself). No you said red, why??? and why wasn't a yellow sufficient??
[Post edited 14 Jan 15:19]

He’s dived in, arguably recklessly as defined by the laws. Not a lot in it between that and Sunderland (again having not seen it back). There will be and have been softer challenges given red cards.

Gazza,
because he was,
not sure if you were concentrating in the 1st Half,
but Dykes was clearly staying close to and harrying Livermore, this was our game-plan, Dykes didnt close him down quick enough for that 1st goal.

Having no strikers is what is killing us. Four massive home games and two lost already. If we have no money to buy one with then it is division 1 for sure. If we have any to spend but haven’t got off our backsides to bring one in then that is shameful as it has been obvious for a long long time that we are lacking in that area.
To think I’ll be watching them at Stevenage next year is unbelievable- it really has gone badly wrong.

Bet Chris Martin would have got on the end of one of those chances. Just saying like 🤔

An unbelievably frustrating match because we played very well for most of it, created plenty of chances for once and deserved to win. I actually prefer to be thoroughly outplayed because those losses are easier to take.

To go into a season with Kelman, Dykes and Armstrong (5 league goals between them) is ridiculous especially as we clearly had money to spend, see Colback and Cook, whoever made that decision has relegated us because I’m convinced with one decent striker we stay up.

If a top striker had Armstrongs 3 chances he’d have had a hatrick. A good striker would have scored 2. Devon White would have scored one of them.

We’re going down.

Really enjoyed watching Sinclair Armstrong today. Apart from one finish where his first touch let him down, he caused them plenty of problems. Ran his socks off, and had the Loft on their feet plenty in the second half. Thought his performance deserved a goal really. If we are to go down and hold onto him, a season of tearing it up against league 1 defenders could do his career wonders.

Colback our defensive mid.

Anyhow, Livermore should definitely been picked up on both occasions

Sadly it just doesn't work like that on the pitch....and highlights your lack of understanding of football.

PS - Listen to the Manager speaking specifically about 'Jack' directly after the game.....I am a fan of 'Jack' as well but seemingly many do not see the importance of 'Jack' to the team - you being one of them!!!

We didn’t deserve to win and a draw would have been a fair result, but we lost and Watford deservedly took the 3 points. We also weren’t unlucky, the team were playing at the limit of their capabilities. Despite putting in a fairly good performance we were still not good enough. Sadly Armstrong does not have the composure for first team football and I fear that this season could have a detrimental impact on his development, but it’s a stark reflection of our limited squad.

As crazy as this sounds, I enjoyed the game. It was entertaining, but it was also crushing at the same time. We put in effort and it just wasn’t good enough, and that hurts.

Perfectly sums up my feelings about today Joe 👍

Finishing is a big part of football. If you can’t finish you don’t deserve to win games.

Yes bloody Livermore who is older than time and scores about as often as a solar eclipse smashed two in but we should have been well ahead before they woke up a bit.

That midfield was absolute dross. Colback deserved a red and offered nothing on the ball at all.

I thought Colback was excellent first half everything that Dozzell was not.At the end of the day we opened them up a number of times final ball was often not good enough, prime example being the one from Willock when 2- v 2 with Armstrong gave him a horrible bobbly pass or Paal getting around back 1st half and just blasting getting around the back and just blasting it. Desperately unlucky with the keeper save from Armstrong 1st half that Chair got outmuscled on. Even. our goal came from a deflected cross rather than a good one.

If you miss 2, arguably 3 sitters and gift goals against then unfortunately you do deserve to lose.

The bigger issue is that as North has said before and will no doubt say in the report, Ipswich away, the lads like that one, turn up and put in a performance. Bournemouth at home, PL side, ooh we like that, we will give it a go. Watford on a Sunday, nice sunny day, sure why not, let’s play.

Next week, at home to a physical Millwall side they won’t play like that, they’ll play like a bunch of cnts and lose 0-2. Huddersfield at home? Nah don’t fancy any part of that, they’ll phone in a 0-1 defeat.

And that’s a large part of why Marti is so fcking furious right now behind the scenes. These guys *can* play, and *can* take it to an above average championship side, they *shouldnt* be where they are. But there is no fight, no desire, no professional pride in these guys and the second they experience a bit of adversity they just fold. The club spent way way more than it could afford on bringing in Colback to be the gritty bastard in the team and he’s on a personal mission to play as little as possible this year..

Gazza, you're wrong on this one mate, Dykes was tasked with marking & tracking Livermore.

Hey PRR.....I thought Dykes done a lot better today. Played a deeper role, got more time and space. His goal was easily taken but he was around at the start and ran into the box unmarked because he moved there quickly, instead of wondering what to do next.

I thought Colback played well, the simple miss apart. The yellow was him taking one for the team because of poor play to give the ball away. Think we’re a better team with him in it.

Yeah agree, Colback looked like what we've been missing recently, a player who always shows for a pass and looks to quickly move it forward. Just a shame he can't stay available for sustained periods

Agree Gazza,

Think it was Lanhoop / Lanshark (?) or another poster who was spot on about Dykes recently and something I'd not noticed,

Dykes 1st touch is actually decent enough (as seen a few times today) and its all relative at this level as Austin did'nt have exactly a great 1st touch, but its usually his 2nd or 3rd touch and when he starts running with the ball he's sometimes too easily dispossessed as does'nt use his body well enough to protect the ball (saw it once with him today but a few times with Cannon)

Makes you think that lads who didnt come up through street football (or playing in cages as they do now) don't have that muscle memory as to how to get your body shape right to protect the ball when in possession.

Went straight through Colbacks legs.

And behind him Dunne turned his back and jumped over it.

I thought both Dykes and Armstrong were excellent especially in the build up play win that game 1-0 and we would be saying so. Chair and Willock struggled, I thought it was noticeable how much better Willock was on the left than on the right but that dreadful pass to Armstrong when 2 on 2 summer it up

Also if he plays can we have Dixon Bonner on set pieces please the few he took in the last 10 minutes were better than any in recent weeks pace and arc on the ball,

Sometimes you just know you are down when you have game like that when nothing falls to you and you lose to two 20 yard screamers

Unlike you he probably thought the bloke who had been marking Livermore all game was marking Livermore for the goal but then I can’t expect to have half your sofa wisdom.
