Plymouth Argyle v Swansea City : Matchday Thread on 10:23 - Jul 13 with 1244 views | aberhugh | I have a friend who is an ardent Shrewsbury supporter who was very impressed with Ogbeta. He is really rapid and can deliver a cross he is at his best going forward and could provide for our front line. He said he was not the best defensively. However, I feel after last season we need some enterprise to get bums off seats as so much of last year was turgid.

Plymouth Argyle v Swansea City : Matchday Thread on 08:45 - Jul 13 by BryanSwan | Didn't watch last night. How did we set up, was it the usual from last season? |
In the first half we set up in a 4-3-3. Fullbacks Naughton and Latibeaudiere moved narrow and high into midfield, with Sorinola and Ntcham holding the width. Darling and Wood were a traditional centre half pairing who didn't wander off and looked pretty solid but there were massive spaces down both flanks. At the end of the first half we changed to the traditional Martin shape, maybe to try to reduce those spaces. Naughton moved into the middle of a back three. Darling left centre half, Wood right. Neither looked quite as comfortable and the latter got caught a few times having to play too much football. Ntcham moved to left AM and was much more involved in the game after a shaky first half. Piroe on the other hand was far less involved. The second half was nothing we didn't see plenty of times last season, and pretty poor even before the changes. Did feel like they had the better chances and were in our final third more often than we were theirs. We stifle ourselves trying to play everything through a narrow strip down the middle of the pitch, and teams find it easy to defend. Crying out for a wide player who is going to get his head down and drive with the ball on a regular basis, to turn teams if nothing more. Obgeta has to be given more chances, surely, rather than spending more money. Even McFayden in the u21s shows more ambition than we saw from right-footed Sorinola down the left, and was given a long contract after his senior debut last season. Never seen since.

Does HE want a wide man though. Our plan seems to bore the opposition as well as fans. All any team has to do is wait until we make crucial errors . We repeat them as evidenced by Reading last year. We need to learn

There is a schism between club recruitment insiders and the manager. For this season five or six prospects brought through the ranks at great cost in time and money are out of favour. All were given long contracts based on potential. Benda, Cabango, Williams, Garrick, Whittaker Cullen Ollie and Brandon Cooper. Of them perhaps only Cabango and Ollie hit the mark. Loans now seem pointless. Garrick for one has progressed significantly. McFayden was also given a long contract but even now might not be in Martin's plans. Martin favours 17-18 year olds from the underage groups not 21 year olds. [Post edited 13 Jul 2022 12:13]

With Allan to come in, a couple more to arrive, Piroe and Oba up top, Darling and Wood at the back, plus Naughton. Top 6 by Christmas

It was a game where quite a few players were used which meant that you can't get anything on how we will do in the coming season, these games are not very competitive and are used to see how fit certain players are and how they perform in certain positions, that's why they call them friendlies, they don't mean much.
