New Manager: odds on 13:30 - May 24 by swisscottage | I can understand your position re Warburton's removal, but you're totally unrealistic in terms of having the appointment ready to go. The majority of managers that we had in mind for the position were already in a position with another club. Two of them specifically managing teams in play-offs. No chance do we start talking to those managers until their season is over, they wouldn't be given leave to talk to us, and nor would they talk to us whilst they are still hunting promotion with their current club. If Manning and Ainsworth were at the top of our list of candidates then of course we're goign to wait until their respective seasons are over.. which wasn't until last Saturday. |
People In all lines of business get so called tapped up. If the board as has seemed evident from their irritation allegedly with his January transfer business and if they were indeed or not not amused by his lack of using younger players, then the board would have definitely sounded out to potential replacements. That happens in all industries. It's not an offer of employment but a potential opportunity ie a target to be head hunted. If they waited till end season to do that I be very surprised. But the longer there is no appointment ensuing with a shorter pre season, I believe it should be completed definitely in next two weeks at the very latest. Possibly and obviously only speculation but perhaps targets one, two and three are no longer interested !!!!

I'm not saying they wouldn't have felt out each candidate via agents, but they would have waited until the appropriate time to make an official approach to their parent clubs and interview. This club is making every appearance to trying to be above board and respectable in its dealings. Also, if the managers in question are of the character we are looking for at the club, then they wouldn't entertain a formal approach until their play-off campaign was completed.

Not sure your last paragraph is at all relevant in professional football. In all other industries yes But valour honesty and integrity generally means mediocre in this game. Examples ??? It's a win at all costs game and although I agree in reality your statement is correct do you really believe that those that get to the top and succeed are pearly white and as innocent and honourable in this game where huge financial rewards are on offer.
