This infection spread from London to Wales and the English regions. Fact.

If Johnson had acted earlier much of this could have been avoided.

Well......it turns out the Chester FC applied for and accept a Covid support grant of 25k from...

Flintshire County Council.

Will they be paying this back now then if they successfully argue they are allowed fans?

They can't have it both ways.

So Welsh tax payers will pay Chester 25k because of the idiot we have running our country.

Let’s try & keep our narrow minded views in Wales & not make ourselves self a laughing stock.

Don't see what it has to do with Drakeford. He didn't build their stadium in Wales.

He also didn't make them apply for support from a Welsh council although they claim to be entirely English.

This was back in 2020 by the way.

Is it the right time to inform Chester of their obligations under the welsh language act, that all signs in Wales should be in both languages…?

Otherwise just fine them. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Chester have followed English regulations since the Pandemic started. Why has it taken that idiot Drakeford so long this simple fact.

A simple and pragmatic solution if for the UK government to move the border 100 yards are so to include the pitch in England. In return the border elsewhere can be moved to give Wales a bit of extra land in return.

Drakeford is making a complete ass of himself try to create unnecessary friction between Wales and England. He should sort out the mess in Wales in first .

The United Kingdom is one country but if Drakeford wants to build a border fence between England and Wales he can pay for it himself.

I think you're misunderstanding this.

In the height of the pandemic in 2020, when football clubs in England and Wales, Chester City football club applied for and received a 25k covid support grant from Flintshire County Council on the basis that their Stadium is in Flintshire, in Wales.

That article is them now in 2022 pretending they are not subject to any Welsh jurisdiction as if it's come as a huge surprise to them.

Whether you agree with Drakeford or not (I actually think the fan ban is futile), Chester cannot have it both ways.

Their registered office is in England and only part of the ground is in Wales. Cheshire police do the matchday policing at the ground. Perhaps Cheshire police should bill the Welsh government if they are policing a match in Wales.

Are you serious saying that any building that straddles the English Welsh Border should be knocked down and rebuild one side of the border.

Drakeford is making the Welsh government a laughing stock with his racist anti English agenda. Bet he will still want the huge subsidy from Westminster though.

You're missing the point.

All the stands and pitch are situated in Wales. Outdoor sport in Wales with fans in attendance is prohibited.

Where their office is if no relevance. The head office of Amazon is in America, but the employees working in Fabian Way must abide by the laws of this country.

"Racist anti English agenda". A serious accusation. Can you back it up with examples please.?

We in Wales decided a couple of decades ago to run our own affairs using the budget given to us by the UK Government,

Almost all the UK is subsidised by debt. Only the South east England is in credit and this in part is due to the massive bankers bail out of 2009 and the on going property subsidies. The south east is a wealth vortex where all companies like to have a head office and therefore pay tax.

Not at all I went to bed

If you think this couldn’t of been nipped in the bud & allow common sense to prevail so be it.

It’s quite astounding that a government & those who support them can’t see how stupid this is making Wales look.

It’s similar to stopping Welsh football fans watching their team play at home but they are free to travel in their 1000’s to away games on buses & trains, drinking/eating in pubs keeping the economy going.

I suspect we have a lot of people working in the public sector & scroungers posting on this site.

Anyway off to work.

Not before calling people who think that people in Wales should abide by the law in Wales embarrassments to Wales. Which was obviously desperation after I educated you regarding Chester playing up their Welsh links when it suits them.

None of Drakefords other policies are relevant, I'm talking about this case without bias (as stated I don't agree with the fanban).

If Chester get away without a fine or allowed fans in so should all other teams in Wales of a similar size and smaller.

But they can't have it both ways. Taking handouts from Welsh tax payers while simultaneously ignoring Welsh law cannot be allowed.

Because they are carrying out their activity in Wales.

Just like anyone from England or anywhere else who comes to Wales to work or on holiday has to abide by Welsh laws while they're on Welsh soil.

Their nationality is irrelevant.

A couple of conundrums for Drakeford to ponder on.

1 a person lives in England but works in Wales. Are they allowed to travel to work in England or subject to Drakeford's fine

I don't know, email the Welsh Government or look on their website. If I had to guess:
- The Welsh employer would get fined as well as the employee who's committing a crime on Welsh soil of going to a workplace (if unessential).

- probably neither fined as the employer is subject to English laws and i don't think travelling in itself is a crime in Wales.

That has no relevance to the Chester City FC situation however.

I thought that the rule was in Wales was "work at home - if you can".

All of the info shows how crazy this all is. We are the UK so there could be some latitude but what would the answer be if Chester was a French club but the Stands and pitch were in Belgium and they France had the English rules and Belgium had the Welsh rules? Would the Belgian Government be instructing the local police chappies to be enforcing the Belgian rules?

The ground is on a retail and industrial park towards Sealand. Mainly garages and car showrooms and out-of-town retail. The traditional border was the Dee, but that was changed in the 70s. It's unlikely to impinge into NORTH Wales, though NE Wales of Wrexham and Deeside is the most populous area outside South Wales. Let's be frank, the Cestrians are no fans of the Welsh and Wrexhamites are nit going to travel to the Deva. Most of those in Queensferry, Shotton etc. are either Poles or more likely to go to Liverpool and Manchester for football. It's a complete irrelevance, the club's office is in England, the border tuns through the ground. They are policed by Cheshire Constabulary. If they have received money from Flintshire then it should now be returned by the club or reimbursed by CWAC (though as a CWAC council tax payer they can do one).
