What a despicable image to share online. That socialist political party murdered millions of people, yet former Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood thinks it's fair to liken them to UK citizens who do not want to be part of the European Union.
Let's hope she never wins the right to represent any of those 17,410,742 people she apparently thinks so lowly of again.
Rather than being deposed by the ‘men in grey suits’ she should be collected ‘by the men in white coats’.....she Is so bitter and twisted it’s almost funny.

You need to understand that not everything is about Brexit. For the EU, Brexit is an irrelevance and a distraction from important issues.
All through Europe fascist parties are growing stronger, and of course the EU should be opposing them.
Here's a tip. When the Daily Mail puts quotes around something in one of their headlines, it means that they've just made it up.
And Hitler wasn't a socialist Dwight, or the Daily Mail wouldn't have been one of his biggest supporters in this country before the war. But you knew that and made the smear anyway.

"Hitler preached class warfare, agitating the working class to resist “exploitation” by capitalists , particularly Jewish capitalists, of course. Their programs called for the nationalization of education, health care, transportation, and other major industries. They instituted and vigorously enforced a strict gun control regimen. They encouraged pornography, illegitimacy, and abortion, and they denounced Christians as right-wing fanatics."

Above all, the Nazis were German white nationalists. What they stood for was the ascendancy of the “Aryan” race and the German nation, by any means necessary. Despite co-opting the name, some of the rhetoric, and even some of the precepts of socialism, Hitler and party did so with utter cynicism, and with vastly different goals. The claim that the Nazis actually were leftists or socialists in any generally accepted sense of those terms flies in the face of historical reality.
Good work Dwight.

The word socialist was included in the name of the party to try to appeal to the working and lower middle classes. Do you believe the Democratic Republic of Korea is democratic? I can start calling myself Lionel Messi; it won't make me any better at football. If the Nazis were socialists, why were communists and socialists purged from the civil service, imprisoned and often killed? Why were trade unions outlawed? Why did a very small number of companies like Krupp make huge amounts of money?

Yes see change U.K and Liberal Democrat’s for other misleading party names. They’re all at it!

To say they were ‘white nationalists’ is completely false. That flies in the face of historical reality. I would guess that the huge majority of people rounded up and killed would have been white.

She should quite rightly be heavily criticised for this, there’s too much of this rhetoric in the political spectrum. People seem to need some evil force to rally against, be it Nazis, “tories”, racists. I think it says something about their psychology and the relative lack of strength in their arguments. That much is clear in Leanne’s case - a nationalist who is pro EU???

The idiocy of attacking the majority of her target audience when her party is struggling for votes at the best of times is also quite staggering.

If only these politicians actually listened to Brexit voters concerns and fears as opposed to ignoring them and branding them fascist, thick, racist, Nazi etc. If they'd done that many years back there would be no mass anti-EU movement.
The likes of Leanne Wood are too disconnected and out of touch to ever realise that something must have caused this mass-revolt because?.... Once upon a time being anti-European was seen as being more of an eccentricity that it is was the norm. Those were the days a few decades back when Jemima Khan's father and his Referendum Party were seen as a fringe-party, and UKIP complete and utter no-hopers getting an average 1.2% in 194 constituencies. Look what's happening now!

It could be viewed that to perceive this as being representative of Leave voters you'd have to see the resemblance.
Farage probably is a fascist, or would explicitly be if there were votes in it for him. He's certainly using a similar playbook. Some who voted for Leave are too, even if they wouldn't want to admit it. Lots, and by far the majority, aren't though. Not that any of that should need saying.
If we're looking across Europe, there are a few cases where the parallels are not far away at all. We live in more worrying times than I can recall.
Oh, and Leanne Wood is mince. That isn't news though. Best thing Plaid ever did was getting rid.

Trouble is, people aren't prepared to have a discussion around the imagery. Whatever you think of her as a person or her politics, Wood is right - it's a very powerful image and may say something about the general state of Europe. There is a rise in right wingism, including some pretty unsavoury elements. We could talk about that and whether it's something we believe is good, or call each other names in the playground and virtue signal like feck in our echo chambers. The choice is ours.
Edit - not really meant a response to your post, sorry Just a general comment.

Political discourse is dead. Sides are picked, facts and opinions are now of equal weight. Social media sees the creation of echo chambers where your own views/prejudices are amplified. We're all guilty of that to various degrees, if my Twitter feed had been any accurate guide then Plaid or the Liberals would have romped the Welsh EU vote.
Resolving that is going to be the mother of all challenges, if it's at all possible. I like the Citizens Assembly idea, although Rory Stewart's ideas to implement that were horrendous.
Don't know if anyone's seen Years and Years on BBC1 (by RTD). Worryingly plausible.

One of the core tenets of fascism is the forcible suppression of opposition. On the surface level it appears that this is what Leanne was trying to achieve with her tweet, to slur nationalists as Nazis. Of course I could be mistaken, and implore you or anyone else that can help to provide evidence of her being right in this case, as Nazism should be taken seriously.
My contention is that these labels are dangerous and designed to shut down discourse and opposition. I keep seeing accusations of Fascism, Nazism and Far Right that just don’t fit the bill when scrutinised. The ironic danger with this course is it could actually engender such movements. Perhaps I’m wrong and Leanne is raising awareness of a particular threat in an evocative and crude manner.
