So the gentleman I sit next to was telling me about the Villa trip in which he had to have a word with the guy behind him who thought it would be a good idea to shout racial slurs towards Tammy Abraham. Encouraging our players to "snap the **** p***k. Not only did he play for us last season and give it his all but what the hell has Abraham done to deserve that kind of abuse. The lad reported it to Kick It Out and reached out the club. The Swans have since contacted him for a statement.
Kids go to these games, this isn't the example we should be setting. Do the right thing guys if you hear anyone being racially abusive, it doesn't matter who its aimed at, give them a stern talking to and report them to stewards and Kick It Out. There's no place for it in this world.
Not sure it went away. I think racism and xenophobia are more prevalent now than over the last 20 years. Some pretty nasty people are getting a voice in the media and there is certainly a much harder right of the Tories than for a long time. It has no place anywhere.

It's symptomatic of wider society, sadly. You've got mainstream politicians stirring up racial and xenophibic tensions and then little opportunist tosspots like Stephen Yaxley Lennon riding of the back of it. The knuckle-draggers feel emboldened.

It wasn't really socially acceptable to be openly racist a while back. But since the emergence of the far-right all over the west in the recent years. The closet racists stopped feeling like they have something to hide.

Not sure it went away. I think racism and xenophobia are more prevalent now than over the last 20 years. Some pretty nasty people are getting a voice in the media and there is certainly a much harder right of the Tories than for a long time. It has no place anywhere.
And the Labour left are innocent, I suppose.

Racism needs to be kicked out of all walks of life, however due to human nature I can see it taking hundreds of years to eradicate it, if it ever is.
Also the acceptable ‘white racism’ needs to be stopped too. Ask Diane Abbott.

You're always going to get the odd f*cking idiot. I would imagine that 99% of all the people in a football crowd today would be horrified to hear genuine racist abuse and would either tell the person to shut up or report it to the stewards/police.

There is far more overt racism on display at Swans games than a few years ago. I have done in the past when it was unusual but as I was pointing out, it is now routine. Last season I got in a bit of a do as well but with the stewards and some at the club pretending it isn't happening the chances are I'd get the ban. A couple of us did think we'd got a particular nasty f***** kicked out but it turned out he was moved to another part of the East. I have also gained no support at all when sending up to these people. Definitely a case of picking the right battles.
