Catalonia declares independence. on 16:29 - Oct 27 with 4980 views | Lord_Bony | How the hell are they going to be a legally recognised constitutional Independent state? The government of Spain won't allow this to happen, besides only a small turnout of 43% does not constitute a fair and legally representative vote, another one at the very least should take place. It's like the south-east of England declaring itself independent of the rest of the UK...this is the powerhouse where most of the money and revenue is raised for the country, exactly the same situation as Catalonia and Spain. The main cities of Barcelona and Valencia are huge and generate so much money for the rest of Spain , It's understandable why they want to keep it all for themselves after all. The only option open now to the Spanish government is intervention into the Catalonian parliament by force in order to prevent various processes taking place that would allow it to become constitutionally established as a legal entity. Do they have the balls to do this? Let's wait and see. A new Spanish Civil War maybe on the horizon.

Catalonia declares independence. on 16:38 - Oct 27 with 4968 views | NOTRAC | I think that the heavy handiness of the police during the referendum stopped people from voting. In reality however, as far as the outside world was concerned, the police attitude was a propaganda nightmare.

I think your geography is a little wayward there, M'Lud. Valencia is way south of Catalonia on the Costa del Azhar.

If the south-east of England had its own history, language and culture (sic), you would still be missing the point. The turn out was seemingly low due to the intimidation. It was actually very high given the brutality that we have all seen. Spain cannot simply ‘jail a nation’ against its democratic will. I am sure they could work together for the common good. Spain has mismanaged this on a Mick McCarthy as Ireland manager scale of incompetence. Power to the people.

They would need a unanimous vote from the other 28 countries to join. I doubt if Spain would agree.

Catalonia declares independence. on 19:06 - Oct 27 with 4767 views | exiledclaseboy | I’ve no particular view on Catalan independence but there’s no doubt this has been spectacularly badly handled on both sides, but particularly the Spanish government. This can’t end well for anyone.

They most certainly will because they won't remain independent. I am flabbergasted as to why small areas want independence from their larger identity. I appreciate the wealth of Catalonia may play a part but closer to home, I can't understand the Welsh or Scottish desire. It's ridiculous. Kilkenny will undoubtedly put me right!!!

The stink of hypocrisy from the likes of you is truly staggering. It’s ok for Catalonia to be independent and the Irish and the Scottish and the Welsh , but when it comes to British independence you cry like a little baby. The eu cannot “jail a nation (UK) against its democratic will. (Your words) Pmsl.

There is no desire for Scottish or Welsh independence. The Scottish voted against independence in 2014. The Welsh would reject independence by around 90 plus percent.

Brilliant. Thats why the SNP runs Scotlands Government and sends nearly all the MPs to Westminster. Once the older generations ‘pass’ ....then Scottish independence is inevitable. You are right about Wales though. We have stockholm syndrome as a nation.
