Having a little root around this morning, I note it's 20yrs since this great maniacs album was released.

Interesting mob, but the punk sloganeering and situationist schtik seemed contrived. Never really my cup of tea until then. Changed my mind after EMG came out.

Musically and lyrically a tour de force.

Whatever happened to Pure Rock Fury, is he still alive on here in another form??

Like all Manics tunes, you hear it once and think thats ok, hear it several times and it gets boring.
Richey Edwards went missing for a reason.

The gig is happening in the Liberty this summer for this very reason - Manics headlining, SFA supporting, all I need now is Gorkys to reform and agree to perform and it'll be a dream line-up. I grew up listening to these bands.

A true classic, the start of the post-Richey era and also the beginning of some much patchier output since.

Still not a patch of The Holy Bible though.

Much like that boring band Coldplay, The "manics" are awfully dreary.

Cool to like them init.

Each to their own. I've seen them live more than 20 times since the early 90s, for most of the first five years or so their gigs were full of the least cool people on the planet. Different these days of course, they're more dad rock now I suppose. A nostalgia act. I still enjoy 'em.

Nothing like seeing them live. I am not a massive fan, but I'll grant you they are in their element live.
What a fan you are fair play.

Did you ever see the phonics at the Morfa?

I grew up with Kelly and Stuart, not a fan of their music but had some good nights out in Aberdare with them years ago.

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

Talking of welsh bands, this is the latest offering from the Aberdare area - a band called Fingertrap. Only kids but I think they will go on to better things

I put the Manics on in the Star Hotel, Ystrad Rhondda in 1990/91, they weren't very good. At the time they were being pushed as a Clash-y type band, I've never gone to see them since, however I do think that they released a LOT of decent tunes. In true Alan Partridge style, my favourite album is ' Greatest Hits'.

42 years ago this week Queen II was released.

And it's not been bettered in the 42 years since.

I can agree that the first two albums were pretty good. They were sh!te at Morfa though - my heart sunk when I realised after the first few chords that half off it was on tape. Cheated.
