No, not too obvious, but you have to ignore Jaco for your sanity.
You see the BIG problem with Jaco is that if you accept in your mind that he is a human being and a "bass player" then it becomes immediately apparent that you yourself are like a one legged blind footballer with a broken spine when compared with Lionel Messi.
Far better for ones own sanity to believe that he is (was) a God like Lizard creature from a far away galaxy and that fretless is actually more akin to a bassoon than a bass, so it does not really count as bass playing.
So that is my story and I am sticking to it.
I tend to agree - he wasn't human, but I believe he came from outer space.
