Labour MP's £2.1b family business pays 0.01% Tax on 09:27 - May 28 with 5632 views | Darran | Well again as embarrassing and disgusting it is she hasn't broken any laws so she wouldn't be hanged. Why the press keep going after individuals like Gary Barlow etc when it's the fault if the system baffles me.

Hell, show me someone who enjoys paying tax no matter how much or one that has never disclosed money taken for a "foreigner". MASSIVE HYPOCISY which we Brits are masters at.. Labour ,a Labour MP ,A Labour family ,a representative for the "working man" who "we" are somehow obliged to vote for because "we" are of that class. Bonkers I tell thee

This is hardly the same thing. As far as I can tell from that rather ridiculously titled and misleading article, this company paid corporation tax at the appropriate rate and quite legally. There's no evidence in that article of any fudging of profits offshore to avoid tax, and in fact the company says it hasn't done that. Comparing that to the likes of Barlow, Jackson, Yorath and their ilk who undertook what could only be described as a scam to evade paying tax is, indeed, utterly bonkers. And given the furore the likes of Cameron whipped up when it was the likes of Jimmy Carr in the firing line, it's rather hypocritical how they've moved the goalposts now. Would we all do the same? Yeah, I reckon we would. [Post edited 28 May 2014 10:37]

Labour MP's £2.1b family business pays 0.01% Tax on 11:07 - May 28 with 5510 views | perchrockjack | Which was is and is my point Andrew. People seem to recoil in horror at any thought of a corporation or individual "avoiding" tax which I recall is no offence, whereas tax evasion is. We would all do it no matter what crap is put on here. If oner has a chance to maximise profits of a company or an individual to have more net worth then for mje its a given to do so. To do otherwise would only be the work of an Albert Schweitzer.

I agree the rules are the problem. If you have loopholes then people will seek to use them. Barlow was tax evasion as far as I can see though. That's completely different. I'm still none the wiser what Hodge's family company did wrong though, apart from being a bit rubbish by the looks of it.

Labour MP's £2.1b family business pays 0.01% Tax on 11:35 - May 28 with 5470 views | NOTRAC | Corporation Tax is becoming a farce. There are so many ways of "avoiding"paying it, the amount of revenue lost to this country is immense. For the huge majority of people who pay tax under PAYE,the draconian rules under this system are a million years away from Corporation Tax rules. This is why Premiership footballers set up Companies so that we end up in the ridiculous position that the majority of their earnings come from their promotions rather than their abilities on the field, which are run as companies and not wages. Tax should be seen to be fair ,and at the moment it isn't.

Government on their profits, running into billions of unpaid tax. There again they create many jobs and add to the economy so it all kind of evens out at the end of the day. Yeah they do. Or at least some are coming here. They've got to recognise their profits somewhere. The problem is there needs to be international cooperation both in terms of closing the loopholes of tax avoidance, but also standardising corporation tax so that countries aren't able to shift the profits to lower tax countries such as Ireland.

That argument has been trotted out endlessly and it's complete nonsense. And besides, if.....lets say Amazon upped sticks and left because they had to pay their fair share. That would leave a gaping hole, and a very profitable hole too, in the market that somebody would quickly move to fill. Thereby making up for the jobs lost, with new jobs. But if anyone truly believes Amazon, or anyone else, would just drop a business arm worth billions just because of having to pay more tax, they are just as mad!! Profit is still profit, and there is plenty of profit in online retailing, even for a company a quarter the size of Amazon.

I've not followed the Barlow case closely enough, but if he and his ilk are being asked to pay it back then it sounds very much like tax evasion to me. And aye, if so, they should be prosecuted.

I agree. It's clear that investing in one eyed willies music agency is a ploy to evade paying tax. A clever brief would prove that in court. The system is f*cked, and ironically guess which fiscal genius was involved in making it like that. No prizes for guessing who I'm referring to... the genius chancellor who ran at a f*cking DEFICIT during the boom years. Clown
