Yet Another Ex Player Close To Re-joining Southampton
Monday, 8th Jul 2024 12:28

With Adam Lallana already signed sealed and delivered and Danny Ings seemingly trying to squeeze a few more bob out of West Ham United, comes reports that another ex Saint is in talks to return to St Mary's.

givemesport.com usually one of the more reliable sources of transfer rumour are reporting that the football media in Turkey are claiming that Southampton have reportedly agreed a major deal with ex-Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Turkish club Besiktas on a 3 year deal from Liverpool last summer and initially was a success, scoring 4 times in his first 14 games before injuring himself in December of last year, he was out for 3 months but returned for the end of the season and played in another 6 games mainly off the bench.

The player who will turn 31 next month, following the appointment of new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the Turkish side are now expected to undergo a significant rebuild, leaving Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future uncertain.

Speaking to Sky Sports last year, he hinted at a return to England after just six months with Besiktas, admitting to being homesick and enduring ‘difficult moments’ in Turkey.

Now it seems that he could be leaving Turkey with Besiktas looking to clear their wage bill, he joined them on a free transfer last summer and presumably the Turkish side would be happy to let him go for the same price in order to get his £68,000 a week wage off the books.

Oxlade-Chamberlain played 36 times in the League for the club in his first spell at Southampton, all in League one before joining Arsenal after allegedly he and his Father who was acting as his agent at the time fell out with then Saints CEO Nicola Cortese.

Maybe I'm being overly facetious but have they extended the number of treatment tables available for next season?

Please no, never ever rated him and couldn't wait to get away last time. Too many injuries and never reached his expectation.

I don’t think this is a good idea but happy to be proven wrong! I echo the sentiment of the first responder. Will we need a bigger treatment room with him and Lallana’s history? Feels like they’re at the end of their roads, nowhere to turn so they’re coming back to us playing on the roots, etc. That said I think Lallana is a great move for us on the coaching front as much as playing.

Turning into a bit of a disaster in relation to midfield and strikers this window. No sign of Downes or O’Reilly joining, apart from (the ungrateful wretch) Ings no sign of new strikers. Plus Sports Republic appear happy to see the women’s team dismantled with 3 of the best 4 players allowed to depart. They don’t inspire confidence do they ?

No, no, no. How many more ex players are we trying to sign.
Haven't heard Ricky Lambert's name mentioned yet, there's still hope.
