Southampton Could Get Windfall From Liverpool Is Sadio Mane Leaves
Saturday, 4th Jun 2022 09:04

With Sadio Mane seemingly rejecting a new Liverpool contract and determined to move elsewhere, Saints could get an unexpected bonus with it being reported they inserted a sell on fee into the deal.

Several media outlets are reporting that Saints are set to benefit from any Sadio Mane move as they had a sell on clause inserted into the 2016 transfer said to be between 15-20% according to The Athletic.

The clause is not on the full fee but on the excess on the £34 million Saints received six years ago.

In truth we were surprised to get that much on a player who for Saints seemed to spend most of the season not scoring much and then exploding into life in the final quarter.

So what is Mane's expected transfer fee, the bad news is that having turned 30 he will not go for his true worth due to the lack of a sell on value, but it should still be well in excess of the fee Liverpool paid to Saints.

3 Years ago aged 27 his value peaked at £135 million, is he had gone then it would have netted Saints anywhere between £30-40 million, we really could have done with that money then.

Now that value has halved and is given as £72 million on transfermarkt, although as stated it may be far less than that.

If Liverpool did get £72 million, then we could get somewhere between £5-7 million and that is a decent amount to go in the transfer kitty, but the likelihood is that Mane will go for nearer £50 million and our cut will be nearer £4 million.

I heard that he could move for 30m . So in that case we would get nothing as its linked to a profit what they paid is it not ?

They should bypass all that and just give him back to us

Not unusual for someone like Mane, (who has had a great career with Liverpool) to want a move and finish his playing time with a good salary from a top Euro club. If his move is anywhere as successful as Tadic' move to Holland, he'll do well in Germany, or Spain.

(With that wonderful hindsight we always talk about) we can see that Liverpool made a killing with a "mere" £34 million fee to us, and a % cut of a good fee would be deserved and help our finances - even if it only covers the salary of one of our " bench players".

Hopefully L'pool will go full out to get back their original fee - and a bit more for us.

Don't forget we also had addons payable for, the amount of games he played, goals scored, CL appearances and league positions obtained. So we haven't done too badly have we?
