Southampton At Aston Villa The Preview
Saturday, 5th Mar 2022 07:23

Saints travel up to one their more happy hunting grounds in the Premier League to take on Aston Villa, looking to further cement their place in the top 10, can they keep up the recent good form.

A busy weekend of football and one in which Saints if they win at Villa could open up a decent gap between themselves and 11th place, or they could get dragged back into the chasing pack behind them.

One thing seems certain and that is it will be all change again for Ralph Hasenhuttl's starting XI, but with a few injury issues, we won't know for sure what the line up will be until 2pm when the team news is revealed.

Main injury doubt will be Mohammed Salisu with a hamstring issue, he is the one man who we can't really cover at the moment should he not pass muster.

For the travelling Saints supporters this will be the first chance to see Danny Ings in the flesh since he left the club in a haste last August and although it was a little disappointing in the manner in which he left or rather the quickness and his desire to get out of the club to one that was in no better position than Saints irked a bit with Saints fans.

Personally I hope any abuse is good natured, this season has worked out a lot better for Saints than it has for Danny, perhaps he regrets leaving now.

But the main thing here is to win the game, from that perspective we are in good form and go up to Villa without fear.

In terms of selection I expect the team to be as near the starting line up that beat Norwich & Everton as injury will allow.

Hopefully we can keep the unbeaten run going and in doing so keep those behind us a distance away.

Personally I would ignore Danny ings & concentrate on supporting saints, all the abuse does is fire up the ‘panto villain’ .
More often than not it bites you on the ass with the said villain cocking his ear to the abusers

I agree, just completely ignore Ings.. Focus on our own lads. A point would be a decent result and keep the run going, Villa are a strong outfit and will have a right go at us. I think we saw very clearly on weds that we have enough cover to deal with a missing Salisu, so I'm not sure why the overconcern here, or are we all going to ignore the wise words of Ralph again..?

Who is ings? And what happened to the first part of his surname?

Hope Saliso is fit as I really do think we'll miss him. Stephens and Bednerek are at times too passive and don't compliment each other. Both have looked very good this season when alongside Salisu, particularly Bedders in recent months.

Yes - why not ignore Ings. I would be happy with a point from this one.

Sadly Adam A. has endured a similar goal drought that Che Adams had in his first season.
Many people came on line and condemned Che during his first season, before he got into his stride and in time even landed some Scottish caps.
Given the chance, it's only a matter of time before Adam starts scoring again and hopefully gets regular game time. I agree with those above who say we shouldn't dwell on Ings' departure (he DAJFU when he was here), but what an opportunity for Adam to show everyone that he will be able to replace D.I. in the longer term.

A draw keeps AV out of reach with game in hand. Go Leeds Utd, take something off LC.
2002 - 2007 Shane Keith Warne, a true Ampshire lad. Thanks for the fun and laughs and turning HCCC into true competitors. RIP
