Saints Have The Chance To Drag 10 Clubs Into The Relegation Battle
Tuesday, 3rd Dec 2019 22:20

If Saints can beat Norwich then the relegation battle could suddenly get a bit more crowded, can they do it.

After the win against Watford Saints need to do it all again against Norwich and if they do so then they could suddenly bring a lot of the teams above them into the dogfight at the bottom

After Bournemouth lost against Crystal Palace tonight, if Saints should win it would bring them to within a point of the Cherries and indeed only 3 points behind Burnley who lost at home to Manchester City, this shows how condensed the Premier League is this season, Burnley had hoped to go 5th by beating City.

Indeed a Saints win would suddenly bring the 10 clubs currently above them potentially into our sights going into the weekend after the mid week games are completed on Thursday.

A win for us could see us jump above Everton if they lose to Liverpool and draw level with both Villa and Brighton should they lose their games at Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

It would also see us only a point behind the Cherries as mentioned and a West Ham defeat at Wolves would leave them only a point ahead of us.

In fact if Spurs win at Old Trafford then we would only be 3 points behind United.

Sheffield United host Newcastle on Thursday, a win for the Blades would leave the Toon Army on only 16 points, a draw here would leave both within our sights should we win.

So it is a big night for Saints on Wednesday, winning changes the season suddenly and gives us a great platform for the next 3 games all against teams directly above us.

Saints fans can start to believe again after the Watford win, we have had a few dramas this season, but only one real disaster, we can come through a difficult time stronger than before and giving us an opportunity like last season to surge in the New Year especially if we get in a central defender.

As I have always said, we are not a bad team, we are a good one with poor central defenders, sort that problem out and we will be fine.

The only thing that matters is us winning and winning and winning until we become a team that is not just safe but a force to be reckoned with. What happens to other teams is immaterial.

The Watford win was an important, desperate, critical result, but I am not deluded to think that the performance for the most part was anything other than woeful and because of that, I celebrated the win because we needed but I didn't and don't suddenly think we have turned a corner. Win tomorrow and get something at the weekend, then may be there is a bit of light on what for the most part been a miserable season.

Forward Thinking - Being Positive ....  Moving Upward.
With luck on our side - by the end of tomorrow nights game our beloved Saints will be out of the bottom three having accrued 15 points,.......... but more importantly, Correct there will be TEN teams immediately above us -  but only within 8 POINTS reach of us - - - therefore by the end of the year we could be mid-table. COYS.

As mentioned above we cant look at other teams just ours but the facts are most of those we are trying to catch are quite a bit better than us so we just have to keep the momentum until the transfer window and hope that Gao sticks his hand in his pocket and secondly we buy a centre back that is a world beater otherwise its going to be a very nervous season again so coys 3 points against Norwich

Beating Watford and Norwich at home is not exactly turning the corner and until as you have said we buy a centre back or two we will struggle so if gap doesn't put his hand in his pocket I am sad to say this season we may not get away with it

I think you're correct in your first post the_saint - the GAP between Goas hands and his pockets ............. is so wide that they will never ever meet - so no matter what they promised Ralph ... our poor old manager will have to soldier on with what he's got!

We are not a bad team as quoted, just have forwards who don't score goals and have not got a creative midfield.
