Saints At Tottenham Hotspur The Preview
Tuesday, 4th Dec 2018 21:22

For one night only live at Wembley Stadium Kelvin Davis's Red & White Army, can Saints win at Wembley for the first time in 42 years.

The Mark Hughes era is over and before the next one can begin Kelvin Davis takes charge of the team for the trip to Spurs, with injuries and suspensions all over the place he has nothing to lose and indeed it gives a chance for the likes of James Ward Prowse and Oriol Romeu, players who were good enough for our sixth place finish but who Hughes rarely picked to force their way back in the side.

Hopefully what Davis can do for his one game in charge and with the presence of the incoming manager in the stands is bring a sense of pride and passion back in the squad, make the players want to play for their place and not go through the motions.

It will be a difficult game, but Spurs have issues of their own for this game themselves so perhaps we can cause a shock and the game against Manchester United showed that we can compete against the big six.

Strangely enough Spurs have yet to draw a game in the Premier League this season, they either win as they have done 10 times or they lose as they have done in the other 4.

I don't expect Kelvin Davis to go to radical on this, there are enforced changes to be made due to suspension, but he can cover these and hopefully some of these coming in will now see some light at the end of the tunnel and find the enthusiasm that Mark Hughes did not instill in them.

Hopefully this is the last game of one era and the start of the next, if we are to play to our potential then we have to kick forward all in the same direction, things have changed over the past month at St Mary's, Les Reed the brunt of some fans ire has gone, Mark Hughes who has failed to get the best out of the team has gone, some fans won't be satisfied till Ralph Krueger joins them, but the Canadian doesn't kick a ball for the club, he has gone some way to addressing the problems and made changes that the fans demanded.

So let's get this one out of the way and then concentrate on the rest of the season all as one.

Kelvin's one chance for glory. A well-deserved reward for our record-breaking former goalie .....taking the team to Wembley. Goodness knows who he'll pick to fill the spaces.

No Lemina ..so maybe he'll choose Romeu or Davis?
Obafemi injured.. so will we see Austin or Gabbi up front?
Suppose he will keep Valery and Cedric as FBs,.... but will he change the CB's ..?

Interesting - isn't it ? One point would be a great result ...3 points? .."beyond words".

Interesting... I was there at the Johnsons Paint Trophy Final... doesn't seem like 42 years ago. Mind you, why I'm typing this in the bathroom God only knows.

I stopped reading after the bit about Ward-Prowse being good enough - he is not, and his omission this season was one of Hughes' few good decisions. Good luck to Kelvin Davis though; great Club man and a very even handed press conference too.

Nick - I'm still confused as to why Les has gone after bringing such stability and realism to the club. You are right about JWP as well. Should be p[laying for England by now if it wasn't for the FA's bias towards wildly ambitious clubs.

Yes Saintnige - you got in before me on the Carlisle match!

I would like to see Romeu instead of Lemina and will not jump for joy if I see JWP on the team sheet.

Although sadly this is something of a 'free hit' I would like to see a decent committed performance and avoid the stuffing that our defensive frailties now make us liable to against teams like this. It's a shame that if we had to choose the more prosaic victory against Cardiff would be better for us but we don't get to choose so let's hope for a very surprising result tonight.
