Saints Looking To Germany For Puel Replacement
Wednesday, 7th Jun 2017 23:35

Jeremy Wilson from the Telegraph has claimed that Saints will be looking to Germany to replace Claude Puel.

Jeremy Wilson a man known for having his finger on the pulse with all things Southampton Football Club has again commented on the managerial situation.

They are looking at two possible candidates, the first is Thomas Tuchel formerly of Borussia Dortmund and he has previously been linked with the Saints job and would represent what would be seen as a coup if Saints were able to appoint him.

But the second candidate is more left field being Roger Schmidt who was fired by Bayer Leverkusen in March, but his reputation remains intact , Watford considered him and Crystal Palace and Ajax in Holland are also said to be keen.

As said in previous articles Jeremy Wilson is well connected to Southampton Football Club and usually if he comments on Saints then there is substance to what he is saying.

Top contenders are two sacked managers. Is this some crazy joke?

Tuchel was sacked by the Dortmund CE after they fell out over the replayed Champions League game with Monaco. He felt that it was poor form from the CE to replay the game the day after the bombing, without consulting the manager and players, putting finance ahead of player well being. One of the players was actually injured in one of 3 the blasts and the players were clearly in a traumatic state, so Tuchel was only defending the health of his players.
Don't forget he won the German Cup and qualified for the Champions League by finishing 3rd in the Bundesliga.
He is a massive upgrade on Puel and I would willing drive to Dortmund to collect him and drop Puel off in France (with thanks) whilst en route.

At least it removes any hint that we approached them without first seeking approval from their current employers :-)

I get the impression that Tuchel is most definitely not a "yes" man and had no qualms about playing young, enthusiastic squad members in place of a few bitter veterans who thought they should be automatic choices. The likes of Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic thrived under his guidance. To me he is the outstanding choice of new manager, should it happen, and the most likely to tell the likes of Tadic to put up or shut up. I believe that Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen have both looked at hiring Tuchel in recent weeks so he has options other than St Mary's. Hopefully we can get him on contract with a clear mandate to influence the transfer strategy asap.

It was a rash decision to sack Tuchel by Dortmund and one I think they will live to regret. Lets make their mistake our good fortune. Snap him up!!

Not sure whether it means anything, but Tuchel's odds have come in to 7/2 which is quite a move. Gary Monk is now 9/2, out from 4/1. Difficult to judge whether this is due to their knowledge, or due to bets made. For those interested in outsiders, Craig David remains at 500/1. I've heard if he gets the role, he plans to bring in Dappy as his number 2.

Tuchel is now 15/8. That is an absolutely ginormous move in odds terms. Not sure if I should be getting excited yet?
