Saints Linked With Dutch Striker Tuesday, 9th Aug 2016 21:27 Saints could be adding another striker to the roster according to the latest media reports from Europe. Saints are said to be looking to buy Luc Castaignos from Eintracht Frankfurt, although Newcastle United are also said to be interested. Castaignos who will turn 24 next month has packed quite a lot into his career so far, he began his career at Feyenoord where 15 goals in season 2010/11 saw the then 18 year old earn a move to Inter Milan for 3 million euros. It would not be a great time for Castaignos in Italy and he left after only one season, although Liverpool had tried and failed to sign him in the January transfer window and Spurs , West Ham and Everton were also linked, it would be back to his native Holland for the striker signing for FC Twente. Castaignos spent three seasons with Twente averaging a ratio of more than a goal every three games in each season. Last summer he joined Eintracht Frankfurt, but the move has not been completely successful, although 4 goals in 16 games is a reasonable return and it looks like he will be off again before the end of the transfer window. He would be a cheap option for Saints, but one with plenty of potential and the experience behind him to help him realise it. Saints dilemma for the coming season is that they do have plenty of attacking options, but there is the doubt over the fitness of both Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin. If fit they are both proven goalscorers and as good an option as any team outside of the top six has, but can they stay fit and in the case of J Rod recapture his form of two years ago. That means Saints need to consider their options very carefully and Castaignos could offer a good back up option with a proven goalscoring record to his name.
