City Stun Saints Monday, 1st Dec 2014 09:56 City made up two points on the leaders,Chelsea this weekend with a 3-0 victory over Southampton. City's victory was Southampton first home defeat the season. City leapfrogged the Saints into second place in the Premier League table. The man of the moment Aguero's aftenoon had started in inauspicious fashion, as he was booked for diving in the ninth minute despite appearing to have been clearly brought down by Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte. City started the game the brightest but the first half was in whole a faily even affair with Joe Hart saving twice in quick succession from Graziano Pelle and Steven Davis. After 21 minutes Mangala picked up his first yellow card after a clumsy swipe at Tadic. The best chance City had in the first half fell to Stevan Jovetic. After some good work he saw his left footed effort cleared off the line by the chest of the Southampton defender. The first half came to a close after a few more half chances for both sides but remained goalless. In the 51st min City made they're breakthrough with Aguero teeing up Toure who drove the ball home. City lost Eliaquim Mangala in the 74th minute after he was shown a second yellow card for barging over Southampton substitute Shane Long as he raced towards goal, but Pellegrini defended the Frenchman, saying he had committed a "necessary foul". Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard who came on as a sub slotted a shot coolly past Forster to put City 2-0 up and then with only 2 minutes remaining on the clock Clichy hammered the ball into the top left corner to score his first goal for City and put the Citizens 3-0 in front. With the points in the bag City suffered a later injury scare when Vincent Kompany limped off with a hamstring problem, leaving the away side to play out stoppage time with just nine men with Pellegrini having already made his three permitted substitutions.
