Swans Look To Extend Laudrup Contract Thursday, 7th Feb 2013 07:37 Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins has admitted that they are looking to extend the contract of Michael Laudrup as he looks to ensure that the club are one step ahead of everyone else. The Swans know that over recent years they have seen star performers (and managers) leave as their success gets other clubs eyeing up their best talent on and off the pitch. And the club have been criticsed at times for letting contracts run down and seeing people like Darren Pratley and Andy Robinson leave for free. But in recent years they have looked to be ahead of that game and Brendan Rodgers, Joe Allen and Scott Sinclair all left with considerable financial benefit to the club. In recent weeks they have announced new contracts for the likes of Michu, Leon Britton and Garry Monk and now the Swans are looking to see the name of Michael Laudrup put pen to paper on a longer term deal at the Liberty Stadium
"At a club like Swansea City we cannot hide from the fact that if we are successful, and we play football in the fashion that we enjoy, we will get a lot of plaudits," Jenkins says. "The way we do things makes us very attractive to bigger clubs, whether you are talking about players or managers. "We have to accept that — that what we do as a club makes us more attractive to others. "What we have to do as a result is make sure we are one step ahead of everybody else. "I think it's the right thing, for us and for Michael, to make sure if we can that he has another two seasons after this one on his contract," Jenkins adds. "That has to be the first step. It will give us a bit of stability and it will provide security as well when players are joining us in the summer. "We are all experienced enough to know that nobody knows what's around the corner in football," he says. "We have all learnt that as supporters of Swansea City over the past few years. "And so while we are looking to get things tied up with Michael, we are also very clear about what football is like these days."
