Simon Paulet was signed when the academy budget was larger than at present. Is there any difference signing youngsters from Scotland? Belgium as a football nation is in vogue over the last couple of years in the quality of youngsters coming through their coaching system and for clubs like ourselves with a poor scouting system, any signing is almost a gamble. |

EA Sports were advertising for someone to input stats on the Swans players last year. A lot of personal data was required like height, weight etc., did you get permission from the club? Especially as that sort of info is not reliable on the web |

Simon Paulet played consistently for Belgium's U19 team last season and I wouldn't give up on him yet. He struggled with the physical side of the game this season but he does possess enough on the ball, plus pace, to hopefully make progress. |

Aaron is a better f/back than Declan but he will get another contract in the EFL, perhaps at Donny.
Extended contracts over the years to Blair, Davies, King and Reid just indicates how poor our recognition and recruitment that stinks of Jenkins has been.
What difference is another season going to make for Cullen, unless he goes out on loan, while Kieran Evans flatters to deceive on the ball, has zero pace and struggles to play 90 minutes.
Are Tom Price and Dan Willian’s really going to improve or have they been given another year just to bulk out the U23 squad?

Hugely difficult for most managers to give youngsters from the 23's their opportunity in the PL, unless of course they are of the quality of a young Wayne Rooney etc.
There are a number of avenues a club with limited financial budgets like the Swans(even in the PL days) can utilise but that depends entirely on another budget, this time for an accountable scouting department in recognising your Mepham's when they have been released. But the bottom line with the Swans was who had the final say in the matter regarding signing youngster, an enthusiastic amateur(Huw Jenkins.) Despite scouts pushing to sign Ampadu for £100k, Jenkins vetoed the decision.
During our PL seasons I would imagine that we had a budget of around £500k/ season to recruit youngsters from other clubs, and by and large most of them were failures, as far as making first team appearances are concerned. Fulton and Kingsley were a different calibre when compared to King, Blair and Biabi from Scotland while our recruitment that cost sizeable five/six figure transfer fees, Hurrell, Proctor, Obeng, Situ, Donnelly, Zabret, Demetriou, Maric,forgetting the fees paid to Cardiff for March and Smith plus better than average salary when enticing the likes of Meade from Arsenal.
Even though Oli had had first team experience at Bradford and non-leg Chester he can be claimed as a success for our scouting team as can Byers who was released by Watford, as recognition of their potential.
Would Graham Potter have been appointed if we were still in the PL, but there is no doubt that if he hadn't the latent talent of Mattie Grimes would not have been recognised and he would have been offloaded. |

Decision making in football is not the same as playing football manager on the pc, even though some think so. Selling and signing players doesn't always work out when you want it to. Why have so many of our transfer deals happened during the last hours before a window closes. The reason is that a club will only sell/loan when they have secured a replacement.
In the ideal world it is best to sell on the way up, but who decides that. Many factors, something a small club like the Swans can't afford. |

Football works in mysterious ways and who knows, Dan might surprise us all and sign an improved contract before the end of the season. There is a buzz amongst the youngsters who Dan has grown up with since joining from Hull City and along with the respect for Potter, that might well see him sign another 2 year deal. But if he doesn’t there is no doubt that there will be bigger clubs than Leeds queuing up to sign him.
Should Dan decide not to sign a new deal there is no point in waiting until January, he has to be moved on in the summer and at the moment a down payment of £12/14M plus future add-on should seal his signature. |

The 23’s built their reputation over the years with speedy wingers, James, Hedges, Samuel etc., and it was obvious last season when Garrick started having problems with his hamstring that the team struggled to open up the opposition as well as score goals.
Rodon like most centre backs is too stiff legged to play f/back. A great prospect at c/back but not a f/back. Whether injuries have affected him Brandon Cooper has gone sideways this season, easily caught out of position and has been caught out too many times front on to his opponent.
Unfair to criticise Kees this season as it is with Paulet, and to judge Kees is no Byers is foolish when one compares Byers arrived here having already made his Lge debut at Watford. Judge them next season when they have a full season under their belt while King lacks pace and does not fancy a tackle. What is evident this season is how much the team has missed Jack Evans.
Think Cullen’s contract is up this summer so will be a big decision to offer him a deal as well as Kieran Evans, a gifted player with the ball at his feet but lacks pace and the ability to play 90 minutes. |

Keston and Reid will be gone at end of season while most of the remainder will either be part of the first team squad, out on loan or play in the 23’s.
We can only guess at the cost of our academy 1 status and if there needs to be a down grading I would hope that the club would be able to afford the drop to academy 2, the same level the team was playing at when Landore was opened.
It’s a known fact that the academy is over staffed with coaches and the saving in wages plus other staff that became a necessity for academy 1 status could well be sufficient. Throw in the saving if transfer fees that were paid for the likes of Fulton, Oli, Kingsley, King etc., and instead concentrate on more opportunities for kids released from academy 1 clubs plus local kids could well see the academy continue to flourish. |

People of Mr. Jones's era certainly were made of strong stuff and my dad was no exception. He passed away 2 years ago at the age of 98 at Mynydd Mawr Nursing Home in Tumble after losing his personal battle against dementia and having been confined to his bed at home in Burry Port or at Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli the previous two years.
When ever a topic arose in conversation about vandalism and general local misbehaviour he would turn round to me and tell me, "they should send those buggers to the salt mines in Siberia," My dad was a very private person and although I was aware he had been a Japanese POW, only in later life did I find out further details of his incarceration in these mines.
When almost everything is handed out on a plate to people in today's world it really makes one wonder how easily forgotten the sacrifices a previous generation made for society. |

Most sensible fans will always recognise the job Jenkins did, along with other people at the club but in all honesty Jenkins must take full responsibility in not only the financial predicament the club is in via some irresponsibility in player recruitment but also in the manner in which they sought to sell the club with no consultation to a group of people(the Trust) they worked alongside with.
Sell your shares by all means but to do it in the manner they did was only going to leave animosity and bad feeling with the fans, especially when those fans are unable to comprehend the offloading of players off the club’s wage bill.
If Jenkins did actually pull the plug on the James move to Leeds then along with his recruitment of Potter could well see him make 2 good decisions that otherwise could well have seen the Swans follow the same pathway as Sunderland made last season.
For too long Jenkins was allowed to cover his inadequacy in player recruitment by employing managers with good contacts in the game but when he was left to his own devices and led by agents his time was up and should have retired years back. Now he has become a pariah in the local community. |

Why would anybody want to play in a competition where there can be no dream of competing at the top table of football in the Football League and all of a sudden somebody with cash to burn is prepared to bankroll the club to the Premier League. How many years ago were Bournemouth struggling in the fourth tier of the EFL?
As well as TNS, or even the old Barry Town club have done in Europe, take away the one man band backing TNS, the rest of the clubs are surviving practically season to season and should they qualify for an European adventure, are placed at a huge disadvantage at playing their qualifying games out of season.

Therè are very few academies that are able to work solely on producingcing local talent, most are cherry picked at a young age from other clubs, compensation paid etc. Even one if the best, Southampton. |

A very nature performance from the 16 year old Tivonge against a Wolves side that consisted of 7 players who had previously played against the Swans earlier in the season at Landore.
According to Toshack there were 9 teenagers in Swans team, 9 players had graduated from the club’s academy while 3 of which are still scholars. No guarantees in football as their development could quite easily fall away, but a great advertisement for our academy. |

As good as Blake is going forward he gives me the impression he needs to lose some weight, and will be interesting to see if he gets a new contract.

The likelihood of Roberts, Rodon or James going in the summer depend totally on moving the Ayews and Baston off the wage bill. If they succeed there, wait and see, as that will also decide what sort of kitty Potter will have to bring new players in.
Olsson will no doubt be offered a season after his injury while the club have an option to increase Hoorn's contract, and should there be any real interest in signing him he will go for a reasonable fee. |
