| News Comment | Russell Martin Admits He Won't Change Tactics Or Drop Jack Stephens at 11:57:04
It is rumoured that a body of sane Saints supporters (yes there are some) in collaboration with members of the Jack Stephens Appreciation Society (yes there are some) are to lodge a hate complaint with Hampshire Constabulary against harmful comments in certain Forums. On the basis that such comments are leading to trauma, mental health issues and widespread disillusionment. The fact that the perpetrating journalist is obviously suffering from rampant long term PFFS (Post Fonte Fixation Syndrome) is not seen as sufficient mitigation against the charge. Also, within the charge is an accusation of radicalisation towards a fundamentalist defence is defence strategy that undermines the traditional Saints values of defence as an afterthought. So intense is this doctrine that it does not even accept a clean sheet. Unfortunately, the Constabulary are only ingrained with dealing with Skate extremism and are untrained in dealing with the subtleties of Red on Red tensions. It is expected that they will deal with the complaint by referring to the Hamza Useless manual of woke mishaps. |
| News Comment | Defence Is The Best Form Of Defence at 14:06:13
Another mean spirited attack on Jack Stephens, RM and in effect all things Saints. Yes a settled défence would be for the best but you and others deprecate certain players and gloss over others as if they never put a foot wrong, which is something that all defenders ( at every club) are very much open to. For instance KWP is a very good footballer and an asset to us but he is not the strongest defender and is often caught out of position. Something that Stephens and Manning would be endless castigated for. If you take a look back at past videos including Saints defensive greats, you will often see them stranded in the wrong space and lagging behind attackers. A touch of realism is needed. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The Preview at 09:09:15
We should play our previous Cup team and give the younger players experience and reward. They are probably equally as good as Klopp's Kids and have as much chance as the seniors. Hopefully we can put paid to the Liverpool histrionics one way or another. |
| News Comment | Southampton FC Finally Realise That Their Stripes Are Iconic at 15:48:41
Lets hope it does culminate in a return to proper striped shirts. Interestingly this years kit seems to have been well received yet in the 2002 Bowden and Green book 'Saints in Stripes' the original 87-89 version was castigated as something rotten from Denmark. All a question of changing fashions I guess. |
| News Comment | Will Russell Martin Be The 7th Manager In A Row Hounded Out Of Southampton at 17:01:43
I desperately hope that RM can find a solution and we can get some stability and hope. Trouble is that SFC have become the Russel Martin Show. He talks too much and needs to concentrate on basic football needs. Comes over as an 'influencer' for tippy tappy and always seems to be attention or sympathy seeking in the modern over emotive way. He unnecessarily bared his soul in stating he had seen things in life that nobody should, that's no excuse for imposing on us stuff that we should not be watching! Much preferred Ralph's taciturn one sentence summing ups, which were usually on point. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Middlesbrough The Verdict at 11:55:23
I am not posting this as a defence of tippy tappy or RM's style but this is not just a Saints thing. Its a current stupid football fashion whose inherent risks permeates even the top echelons. Watching MofD shows that its not just Mason Holgate or some other hapless Saint that gets caught out, its regularly happening at the highest level as well. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict at 11:28:24
Leadership may be a problem on the pitch but that issues from the type of leadership we have at the very top. SR's policies mean we have a collection of players made up of those they did not manage to sell, promising young players, lack of experienced heads and loanees. This is a SR team, not a left over from Chinese austerity or Ralph, and its not a good formula to have Premiership aspirations based on. Can RM make something of it all? I guess we have to grant him a long game to sort it out, and himself, but my worry is the SR long game. We are losing our heritage, tradition and status, third best in the South now!. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Queens Park Rangers The Verdict at 14:34:24
You announce every departure as a good piece of business. But it is not good business to erode the squad of its talent and essential players. Neither is it a sustainable route towards promotion as SR purport to be following. You cannot just rely on loan imports however good they maybe. The current policy is flawed and unlikely of success and is going to disillusion the fans again. They are in fact selling the fans - down the river. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Fulham The Verdict at 10:46:12
Obelisk poses a very pertinent question that has long troubled me. We were average, but with some hope, last season up to first week of March. On the Wednesday a creditable cup win against WHU, then on Saturday a soon to be normal hapless collapse at Villa. From then on we have been incessantly terrible and only a fluky win against Arsenal kept us from relegation last season. Did SR come in and upset someone or everyone, did Ralph breakdown, did players revolt? Whatever nothing positive has since been done to stem the unacceptable and continuing downward spiral. Very strange that there was such a noticeable and abrupt turning point. |
| News Comment | BBC's Adam Blackmore Gets Nathan Jones Situation Spot On. at 11:17:34
Look you now, this Jones boyo is no Saint, would be better in his cottage than be compromised at St. Mary's. As mad as a Hatter their saying, keeps picking Leeks instead of Daffodils. Indeed for his goodness, the poor soul should get on his front foot back to his Fathers, recuperate, then reset his algorithms and become the best football manager in Luton again. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict at 16:38:46
It cannot have been a foul by Mo, the Ref did not give it! Judged against the fact that on every other occasion we went near a Villa player he gave them a free kick. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Crystal Palace The FA Cup Preview at 12:09:20
We do of course have two central defenders out on loan. Let alone Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens was always good at repelling Man. City and is no worse than what has been happening of late. Worth a recall? |
| News Comment | Not Long Now Until Proper Football Comes Home at 14:28:31
Have not enjoyed this World Cup at all. Far too many extra time stalemates and penalty shoot outs. That is a really detrimental trend to the game. What has been interesting though is picking up on all the ex-Saints that have been involved. Very pleased for Boufal and maybe he will yet produce the wonder goal of the Tournament. |
| News Comment | Southampton Sack Ralph Hasenhuttl at 17:03:52
I guess we will never fathom the enigma that was Ralph, duffer or genius, or a bit of both according to the weather? Did he play Walcot yesterday in desperation, as an act of defiance or was it a nice sentimental gesture so Theo could reach 400 games? Whatever, best wishes for his and our futures. Perhaps we can now get away from the state of stale depression we have sunk into. And then and then along came Jones! |
| News Comment | 9th Or 17th That Is the Story Of Saints Last Two Weeks Of The Season at 16:25:45
How can we have faith in a manager who seems unable to manage the reasonable resources he has with any consistency of progress. It is embarrassing and unacceptable for Ralph to blame, and link, our recent poor form on the alleged downturn of form of a 20 year old loan player. What next? is it Tino's fault for getting injured or that Romeu is getting older. Ready made excuses for next season? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Coventry City The FA Cup Verdict at 14:00:10
Ralph is fortunate that he does not have the ignominy of an embarrassing cup exit on his head. The team selection and first half performance was even more dysfunctional than even Saints fans predicted when hearing of the line up. We knew that Coventry were doughty opponents so why hand them an advantage with an overplayed hand of team changes. Ralph should not be deluded that he can be like Pep or that there is a pool of fluid talent for him to experiment with. We should stay with our strengths and not underestimate our opponents and disrespect the fans and the Cup. By the way Coventry were good, well organised, quick on the ball and mostly finding their man. As good as several PL teams we have seen this season and can consider themselves unlucky. Lets hope RH has learned a lesson for when WHU arrive.. |
