England win the toss and bat.

Finn chosen over Bresnan

Australia do a Darren Pattinson and select Ashton Agar in their team.

I forgot to mention this but going back to day one, the whole fireworks and red carpet, FA Cup final entrance was absolutely horrendous and doesn't belong in test cricket, not even the Ashes. Have it in the T20, fine, but leave test cricket alone. It's like having a darts entrance when golfers are about to tee off in the Open or something. Load of nonsense. And, I sincerely doubt any one of the players would have been thrilled about having to go through it because it's unnecessary.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

An astonishing Test Match so far and bringing back memories of the 2005 series when the momentum swung each way session by session rather than Test Match by Test Match.

Who says that Test Match cricket is boring???

Test match cricket is the ultimate, everything else is of little importance.

I have a sneaky feeling for the Aussies in this one and its good to see they have a team that is capable of upsetting the applecart and giving us a real test. It bodes well for the remainder of the series and also sets up the winter tour down under to be a exciting encounter..

I agree TS.

writing them off early was quite dangerous and today ( day 3 of 25 days!! ) could be pivotal in setting the tone for the remainder of the series.

Bat properly and get the Aussies on the back foot.

Play poorly and the Aussies will have a huge confidence boost.

That's the "sky sports effect" I'm afraid. They seem to want to over glamour rise everything.

Have to say, the column he's started writing in the Sunday Times sports section is dreadful.

Regarding the state of play, the corporate sponsors and Notts CCC will be hoping England are still batting at the close of play, which would probably extend the game into Sunday.

I quite like him on commentary. Definitely prefer him to Gower.

Each to their own, I find him dull as dishwater.

Gower is the ringmaster, of all of them I like Nasser Hussain the most.

Where have I seen that before?

Kevin Pieterson gets distracted by a spectator/person behind the bowle and then gets out next ball?

I like Nasser and Atherton but David Lloyd is the finest voice in any sport.

Lead of 147.

5 wickets remaining.

every block of 10 runs vital now and we MUST look to bat for the remainder of today.

Must be said an absolutley fantastic 2 and a half days of Test Match cricket so far.

TS is right it is the ultimate form of the game.

if you think of it as 147-5, then you start thinking about reaching 200.

But when you consider it as 212-5, you start thinking 300-325 as a total which would make a lead of around 250 which is much more challenging.

Lot of cricket still to be played here. I'll be bold enough to say that if we can still be in at close of play tonight, then we will win this test.

I'd agree with your last point. Let's not forget that the Aussies were 117-9 and but for a once in a lifetime last-wicket stand we'd now be out of sight.

What Swanny and Anderson will make of the fourth innings pitch is anybodies business.

On another topic - whatever the result - Compton back as opener with Root replacing Bairstow at 6?

Think we're looking at 275-300 now that Prior has gone (another one day innings from him). Think its worth Broad and Swann opening up a bit, they're both decent batsmen and have a few runs in them. Bell can act as the steady batsmen and pick off the bad balls when they come along.

This is gonna be very very tight, I hope we're not left ruing puzzling DRS decisions.

I think a lead of 200

a good start from Aussie - we peg them back and a clatter of wickets when Ashton AGAR comes to the crease with 3 results possible!!!!

This is a proper game unfolding!!

This is well boring, they've gone all defensive and England are simply blocking, wasting time. Give me 20/20 with the swaggering Kholi and super cool Dhoni anyday.

An Hours cricket left yet. If we can get through today we can really put some pressure on the aussies when they get there chance tomorrow.

Absorbing contest so far - how many swings in momentum* has there been.

The Broad incident was fantastic. How he had the audacity to stay in his crease and then walk up to talk to Ian Bell when he'd blatantly hit the ball and been caught was something else. One of those where the opposition think it's cheating, the side it's benefited think it's opportunistic.

Quite how Aleem Dar (sp) hasn't given him out is absolutely beyond me, even my wife who knows bugger all about cricket said she could see he hit it!

Unlucky Michael Clarke, maybe if he wasn't chasing shadows with the other reviews, they could have used one but nevermind.
