Dale vs Cheltenham 09:06 - Dec 22 with 1980 viewsBIffoBiffoBiffo

As a latics fan who went to your game last night and must say I was pretty impressed. I gather it wasn't a "typical" performance, but you played well - even threw in a comedy OG.
What was impressive to me was the way the players imposed their authority on the game after the OG. After a few weeks of conceding 3 and 4, I half expected Dale to crumble a bit. Credit to them, apart from one volley just after the goal - there was never really any danger of cheltenham coming back.

The lad at Right back looked good and I was impressed with the goals. Some peaches in there.

Good luck for the season.

Thanks pal, good of you not only to get up to the game but also to go to the trouble of posting your opinion.

Cheers Biffo -

The right back Rys Bennett is one we need to try and get on a longer deal.

got a future in the game that kid for sure.

Bennett has a bit of a young Rio Ferdinand about him - ability to play anywhere, might take a while before he cements a place at centre half.

One surprise is he hasn't been thrown up front more when we've been behind, he has better feet than some of our forwards.

Poll: Greatest Ever Dale Game

Genuinely don't see him as a centre back. He's wasted as a centre back. He's looked at his best when he's off his leash and can get forward. He did really well in front of the back four at Wimbledon and was really impressive last night at right back but he's not a centre back for me.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Agreed. Maybe later on in his career but right now hes got to much to offer going forward, it would be a waste to put him at centre half. When he broke through into the box onto Grimes? Grants? through ball and took a shot he had 2 dale players queuing up to slot the ball home had he squared it, something that will come with experience. Hope he continues to perform well in this position he may be able to fill the void left by Scott Wiseman, better player defensively too.

I can see him playing a sort of Yaya Toure role, carrying the ball from deep and picking out neat passes. Very good prospect anyway.

Tangled up in blue.

reece did great to get in the box and del boy was on the 6 yard box but he tried to beat the keeper at the near post and won the corner

some center forwards would have bollocked the player for not pulling the ball back

delly simply gave him words of encouragement and clapped bennetts work to get in the box

was good to see

Yep, agree was good to see that, grimes was also telling him to pull it back and clapped the effort.

Something I don't know if I've seen before when we scored, first half for sure the WHOLE team minus Lillis ran to the scorer to celebrate, what team spirit?

Agreed, Toure-esque. Good defensively but with the feet to play further up the pitch too. I'd like to see him continue at RB for now though.

After the second goal it was good to see Grant and Grimes laughing together as if they were comparing their two goals - almost carbon copies of each other. Looked like good mates.

Hope we keep Grant, Grimes, Tutte, Bennett and Adebola. Not saying others are no good but these stand out for me. Mind you forwards always do. Tend not to notice the defenders (apart from Bennett) and midfielders. Also get confused with the two Edwards!!
