M'Bia defo going to be a C/B for us ? 10:35 - Sep 4 with 4057 viewsJonDoeman

"He can play in central defence but sometimes looks moody and depressed in that position because he doesn’t enjoy it as much."

M’Bia’s main and primary position is as a defensive midfielder. Its in this spot where he is most effective. Strong physically, he is very hard to break down and will always give a commanding presence sitting in front of the defence. Its not just physically where he has strengths though, mentally he had proven to be one of the toughest warriors in Ligue 1. In addition, he is quite adept at playing in central defence, although this isn’t his preferred role. When Didier Deschamps was in charge at OM, he wanted to mould M’Bia into a primary central defender. But the player himself said he was unhappy about this, and indeed on the contrary wanted to become a more attack minded midfielder, targeting scoring more goals especially. The potential is definitely there that he could become more than just a defensive midfielder. Ideally in his own mind it seems he has visions of becoming a ‘box to box’ type player..........................cont

So let me get this straight...Mbia is being brought in to a club he doesn't want to go to to play in a position he doesn't like.

I'd like to see a Nelson / Clint Hill pairing tried at CB. Then Biggus Dickus could play in front of them. He appears to have scored only 7 goals in 158 appearances for Rennes & Marseilles, by the way, which doesn't exactly sound like "goal-scoring defensive midfielder" to me.

Yeah, this whole thread is a bit speculative. Someone said he didn't look happy on some video clip and someone else says he prefers to play midfield. Well it don't look like Hughes intends to play him in midfield. He signed a contract with us for a reason. If he didn't want to play for us he could have scuppered the deal. He didn't. Therefore, he must want to play for us. It aint going to do him any good getting his next job if he doesn't do a god job for us.

Well, if all this is true then Chelsea at home first up is perfect.

Let's make sure the whole game takes place amid a raucous din and hateful Marseilles-like atmosphere, and we win against the European champions.

Like last year.

He'll be a lot happier then.

All fair comment but can we please have an embargo against The Scum being credited with any odd victories in any Tinpot Euro VVankions League competitions that may have taken place last season? It affects my digestion.

I'm finding this thread hard to take, what did he do wrong at OM and Rennes, during his times at these clubs ?

I'm with you.

I admit that I found the 2 year deal aittle strange but lets give the guy a chance, he hasnt even kicked a ball and most people are predicting doom and gloom.

That's suicide. Nelsen and Hill should be in a rocking chair sucking werther's originals not playing in the regular XI.

Ok I am exagerrating but I genuinely think we can only have one in the team. They are both slow as treacle. We only need one person with that commanding mentality anyway. Onohua should be in the CB pair of you ask me

It would make sense for M'Bia to play where he is needed most. I would suggest our greatest need is DM in Diakite's absence. I believe a large amount of our defensive woe is due to lack of protection for the back four.

The only problem i see is that he's a bit too honest in his answers - any player moving to a different country and league after 6 years and moving to a smaller club will have some misgivings.

Maybe after a few months in London he'll love it.

OK, so he didn't want to leave Marseille. Hopefully, with the amount of French players we have, it will be a bit easier for him to settle in at QPR than elsewhere. Clint Hill will have to brush up on his French too.

Seems to be lots of nervous/negative threads.

Remember oh so long ago when our resident loonies were predicting finishing above Lpool, finishing 4th, cup finals...

I long for the good old days...

Exactly, if he is a colossus in midfield it would make him a brilliant buy.

Against Brett Angel and the Pelican perhaps

He'll be ok. They all whinge and moan when forced to move.

A few playstation matches with Dyer, then a few roastings with Dyer and nights on the tiles he'll be right at home.

2:59 baby!

You have to have a bit of sympathy for M'Bia. How many English players would welcome being suddenly transported to a club in France? The situation doesn't arise very often because so few English players are wanted abroad.

Hopefully it won't affect his game, and as mentioned before there is a significant French contingent to welcome him on board.
