TF on Twitter on 15:10 - Jul 6 by Neil_SI | I'm worried because if they don't get it right, it will never be the same and we will lose some of our soul. A lot of new stadiums built during my lifetime have lost that magic something from the stadium it replaced, and we've got to be ultra sure and careful that this doesn't happen to us. If we can't recreate the same kind of character and soul as we have at Loftus Road, it will spoil the experience and I'm terrified that might happen. The place has been a real constant in my life, that has always been there, that's always been a symbol of home for me (having grown up around there and even lived directly across the road in one of the estates). I would be incredibly sad and somewhat emotional to see it go. I understand business and commercial problems, but that's what they are. Sometimes there is also history, heritage, culture and even an almost religious like attachment to some places and that's how I feel about Loftus Road. It's worth more to me than making money and I still question whether we really need to move, when the reality is the problem is how much football clubs are paying for players in transfer fees and salaries. It's natural to feel concerned when change comes so fast, and they're attempting to grow the club at an incredible pace. That can sometimes be good and bad, depending on context, but it can also make you feel a little unsteady too and that's probably where I am at at the moment. I think growth needs to be organic as well. I'm not entirely convinced the demand is there for us either. You can't accelerate growth like this without some of it being artificial and I prefer the old fashion way of falling in love with your club, from birth, which is a long drawn out process and has that attachment with the local area that can't be shoehorned onto new or casual fans so quickly. By the same token, if it's done right, I'm sure it could be wonderful too. But I am really going to close my eyes, hold my breath and gulp hard on this one. There's no place like home. |
To survive in the Prem, we'd need to start developing youth players through an academy. Only a few clubs have consistently done that well and often, using overseas talent. If we invested this way instead of big wages, then perhaps, we could stay at and revamp Loftus Road. You've half a chance of premiership footie, bit of a yo yo club and cup run. I'd be happy with that in the grand scheme of things! Far more sustainable.

TF on Twitter on 15:46 - Jul 6 with 1393 views | Tonto | IF WE DO GET A NEW GROUND, THEY WILL NEED TO THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT HOW THEY MOVE PEOPLE. (damn went a bit Holloway there - sorry) I would like to get an equivalent seat - just behind the goal, upper level. i dont want to end up in the corner. Also i would hope to be sitting next to the folk i have sat next to for the last decade (with the exception of Gary who unfortunately died of cancer mid-season). I hope the club doesnt go first come first served, but actuallu considers applications in the round. t'll be complicated, but worth it in the end.

TF on Twitter on 15:46 - Jul 6 with 1385 views | A40Bosh | Sorry Clive, Have to totally disagree with you on one point. Leg Room. There is a BIG difference in saying that leg room is a luxury to be reserved for your sofa at home. At 6'3 when I talk about leg room I mean actually getting my two legs into the actual space in front of my seat, something I cannot manage. If I am really lucky then on the VERY rare occasion that someone is not sat beside me or its a small child I can stick my legs either side of the seat in front of me with my knees in two people's shoulders. That is why for the past 5 seasons I have simply bought all my tickets in the very back row in F Block where they dont make us sit down. 6'3 in the 21st Century is not candidacy for the Guinness Book of Records!

Revamping LR is just throwing good money away. We can't expand the capacity much more than we already have and certainly not enough to keep us in line with even the smaller clubs in the Prem. Its OK to say you'd be happy to be a yo yo club but without expanding we are effectively going backwards as a business. Bringing through talent will not, by itself, sustain a Premier league club (especially when you do actually find a good un he soon gets poached off you by a Liverpool, Spurs, Man Yoo etc).

Congratulations Chris! Not even close to announcing any new stadium and we have the first me-me-me post! This is for the greater good. Its not about the angle/distance of your potential new seat against your previous seat! Anyhow, it'll take a couple of seasons to sort itself out, it usually does. Thats presuming this thing gets off the ground as we hope it will.

when the new ground happens i can imagine the moaning on this board , the colourof the seats are wrong , dont like the consessions in the ground etc etc i think we will get a compact in your face new ground holding around 40k wih room to expand maybe , a roof to make it multiuse something massivly important to us. the good thing it sounds like we arent moving to far away from LR which to me is hugely important.

TF on Twitter on 15:53 - Jul 6 with 1317 views | TacticalR | Great posts from Neil and Northernr. The funny thing for me is that until I started reading message boards, and the case for our existing ground, I always wanted a new ground, right from when I first started going in the late 1970s. It's the message boards that have made me more appreciative of the existing ground, plus the knowledge that it's not easy to increase the size of your support. Actually, what I really always wanted was a bigger ground, which I hoped would be achieved by the purchase of the land behind the School End, and the demolition of all the houses in Loftus Road and Ellerslie Road touching the ground, so we would have the whole block. One thing that really eats away at me in the discussions about a new ground is that, in retrospect, not buying the White City land across the road was a huge missed opportunity. Anyway, despite always having wanted a new ground in some form, I can see that building a new ground is only part of the equation, and certainly doesn't solve all problems.

TF on Twitter on 15:34 - Jul 6 by wombat | below is the details of the dairy crest site taken from helical bars website 2 mins ago Wood Lane, White City Details Size: 33 acres of land Fund: Wood Lane, White City Tenants: Available to let Description: At White City we intend submitting an outline planning application in July 2012 for a residential led mixed use scheme immediately adjacent to White City underground station. The Eric Parry design master plan comprises c. 1.25 million sq ft of residential, 200,000 sq ft of commercial and 70,000 sq ft of retail/leisure/community uses. The landscaping proposals include the creation of a new bridge link from Wood Lane opening out into an urban square surrounded by local retailers and cafes. A large publically accessible garden square will also be created together with private communal courtyard gardens for the residents. Assuming planning consent is granted by the end of 2012, we hope to be in a position to make a start on site at the end of 2013. this could be the new ground |
http://media.investis.com/H/HelicalBar/investor/2012/analyst-tour-march-2012.pdf Pages 6-11 show what they are going to submit to planning (unless they have since come to an agreement with QPR) so doesn't look like the stadium is going to be there.

Some new poster said last week we werent favs for the Unigate site. The fact that TF has said he has 2-3 sites in mind should make us broaden the search area. Redevelop LC stadium with the running track / smaller stadium next to a football ground. Add a rugby team in to the equasion + a cinema and all of a sudden you have a multi sport / purpose area. Also agree about leg room, I am 6'2 and have permenant bruising on my shins during football season. It looks like I am a Muay Thai fighter most Mondays.
